I am curious to know this. Lets just, for a slight second, Forget about tickling fetishes. Now I am wondering if people who say they love to laugh, that they believe is the best thing to do, laughing is what makes them cheer up, but hate to be tickled. I am not talking about they hate it but if they are tickled they be cool about it. I am talking about people who deathly despise tickling as it was an evil entity itself. THe kind of hate that can start a war or make you a dark person inside... Yeah that kind of hate. Do you find it to be a bit of a contradiction?

Not at all, seeing as how there are other ways to laugh. If tickling was the only way to induce laughter, then I'd see your point... although even then it wouldn't strictly be a contradiction - the person loves the effect but hates the means - just unfortunate.

I think when people say they love to laugh, they mean that they love the social experience of it. Laughing is something done in social situations among people with a shared appreciation of some kind of humor. It's nice for everyone in the room to laugh at the same awesome joke. This is a very different experience from me wiggling my finger in your armpit and you squealing.

My point? Not all laughing situations are created equal.

The thing about tickling induced laughter is that it is involuntary, not the same as regular laughter at all. If you are tickled to hysteria against your will, it is not fun at all. Then it is violating and humiliating.

Some people say that they appreciate having a good cry, meaning they watch a sad movie or read a heartbreaking novel. They don't mean they want to have their nose pinched until their eyes water or want something awful to happen to a family member.

To someone who hates being tickled but likes to laugh, it's the same kind of thing, I think.

People who hate being tickled will also not laugh very long before they get majorly pissed off and start screaming.

I don't think it's contradictive at all. I never enjoyed tickling until someone tickled me correctly, and then I just loved it. However I have always been a very positive person and always smile and laugh. I think a smile can change a person's day. Laughter even when not being tickled is so healthy and enjoyable.

Just as an example I was at the post office yesterday and someone was staring at me. I said hello and smiled at him. The person that I was with was in the car and said that the guy just got this huge smile on his face. They said I changed his day by just giving a smile and a hello. To me smiling is happy just like laughing. It's Contagious!

I agree, I don't need to be tickled in order to laugh haha. I have plenty of other ways to laugh and have a good time, and honestly, I dunno if I call tickling a fetish or not.
