I was searching through online websites (as i do when i'm bored lol 😛 ). And i came across this message board dedicated to the Halloween franchise for the fans. And some thread reply's on thier started by one member on the board from it's original post made some good points.

http://www.ohmb.net/showthread.php?threadid=4057&perpage=15&pagenumber=1

I get really sick of hollywood when it comes to long running horror movie series specially. Because after a certain point (they move away from the story line or change so many things or script all together) and just toss in things to catter to the stupid teenager crowd. Most horror fans like to see the sequel or prequel or even some re-makes at least stay some what true to the original or #3 or #4 etc film(s) in the horror movie series. So once you start putting in the likes paris hilton and rap artists in them it just compeletely makes them ''mtv'' style movies.

I like all horror movies from the really cheesy ones to some re-makes etc

I just think that hollywood really slaps the long time hard core fans of the likes (Halloween, Friday the 13th etc) in the face when they change things around or toss out certain films like they never were filmed. Just to make there own new improved take on the movie. When half of the time hollywood's idea of a new take on a long running horror movie is to make the movie as non confusing as it can be so teenagers and only so-so fans of horror fans can understand it.

I'm not talking about just ONLY HALLOWEEN MOVIES i just used that website link as an example.

What is your take and thoughts on how hollywood treats horror movies or it's hard core fans of horror movies?

Do some of the posters over at that Halloween message board have a valid point? (I'm not a member of that forum by the way)

I grew up on horror movies and most were good because of the acting, not so much on special FX. A good case in point would be the origional The Haunting (1963) with Claire Bloom and Julie Christy. Put that into your dvd player turn up the volume a little and turn off the lights. It has some special moments!!

Horror movies, like almost everything else now, suck. you just cant beat the oldies. nowadays, everything is just special effects as opposed to quality acting and stories. i feel bad for the youth of america nowadays. they truly missed the boat. :ranty:

halloween

i am not a big horror movie fan but i have seen most of the friday the13th`s,halloweens and some of the nightmare on elmstreets.in my leoman opinion the original halloween is the best horror flick that i have seen.some of it`s sequels were pretty decent . i lost interest when the actor(sorry his name escapes for the moment)who played Dr. Loomis passed away. For me it just wasn`t the same, Dr. Loomis was as important a character in the movie as Michael Myers.

I agree that the more movies in a series there are the more rediculious the story line becomes. I grew up watching all those horror movies. They Should have stopped and Friday the 13th part 4 and Holloween 2.

All of you are right, the new horror movies do suck. I agree with the Halloween thread to a point. The 1st and 2nd Halloween movies were GREAT to me, and I still watch Friday the 13th and all the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. I don't think anything they make now compares to those movies at all. But what I don't agree with is some of the statements that claim that Hollywood doesn't care about us, the horror movie fans. No, they don't care enough to ask us anything, but I believe that some of those moviemakers were motivated by something, and it wasn't all for the money. Why would they make H20? Because they knew those of us "true" fans would watch it (I liked it, but it was still a little hokey in some parts). I think the main point is, we go to watch the stupid horror movies because we are dedicated to the genre. We do want to see the occasional great movie, but, from personal experience, I just don't expect much out of Hollywood anymore.

Friday the 13th is getting a remake. It will take place at Camp Crystal Lake and will supposedly actually feature Jason, unlike the first original movie. It's being directed by the guy who just made a Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel. I also recently saw a preview for a remake of the movie The Hills Have Eyes.

Well said. I agree with you.

All horror movies are thought up in mind to us the ''fans'' of the genre to a certain tiny degree i would agree with that. But most of it is just all about pushing out the product to get the butts in the seats and make money off of it. I still believe that some day that the horror genre will be back into the good old glory days with new and up coming fresh young horror directors doing great things with the genre again. But right now hollywood is just re-hashing the re-makes after remake of true horror classic movies. They can't come up with anything new on thier own account so they have to re-make classic horror movies.

Nothing will ever hold a candle to the flame of the old Friday The 13th films or Halloween or Nightmare On Elm Street.

Personally i would much rather have NO NAME actors in a horror movie with a good on point story line. Then have big name hollywood stars and a movie that will catter once again to the mtv style crowd of todays teenagers.

It's nice to see a girl getting in on a thread like this as well. :cool2:

Heh we had a halloween marathon, we came to the conclusion that loomis was reverse sampson, when he had less hair, he was unstoppable, but as he grew older and got more hair, he became weaker...lol

I was personally was disappointed when Nightmare on Elm Street and The Evil Dead series went total comedic by the time the last of the movies came out. I like a good joke to lighten the mood but laughter and horror..don't mix.

well evil dead 1 was a horror movie was so B grade that it was viewed as a comedy, so then they made the next 2 as comedies rather than horror.

"I'll swallow your soul, swallow your soul!"

True, there were some funny scenes in it but theres a difference in humor. But when your trying too hard to fit a joke into every scene then that's when it becomes a joke.

*as she clutches her heart in disbelief*

You guys are talking about my Evil Dead! I mean, that is, like, the BEST movie of all time! C'mon...Bruce Campbell should've won an Oscar for that!

Well, I know it's a B-movie, but I think it's definitely a classic!

:yowzer:

I got that one in my collection the special edition dvd. It's a true master piece. The test scene is great (where they test all the guys to see who is the monster and who isn't).

And awww yes evil dead

You should buy the Evil Dead Trilogy!

Honestly, i prefer the black and white version that the 82 version was made from, just a classic sci fi type movie. Same goes for classic horror with the origional "The Fog"

Next Halloween to be made by Rob Zombie.

Anyone else here hate this idea like I do? His first two movies were below average to average at best. Apparently John Carpenter gave the thumbs up to this idea, possibly due to the fact he'll be getting a paycheck from this project. The original movie is a classic due to the fact that is truly was scary, without the gore as well. Rob Zombie is all about gore, Debra Hill may be turning over in her grave.
