I dont think it was balls....I think it was stupidity. Anything they drafted had to be offensive minded, be it running back, quarterback, even offensive line. Now they are giving 54 million dollars to a defensive linemen who had great combine scores but underacheived most of his college career. They could have signed a whole brand new defensive line for that cash. The team was already 14th in the league in sacks last year...they dont need tackles or sacks. They need points, which they cant score with line up they have now. Davis still stays injured...they needed another runningback. And while Im sure the "defense wins championships" line will be thrown about, unfortunately, no one wins games for having the best defense (ask my Redskins). You win for putting up the most points. Name one team in the league that won a Super Bowl because of their great defensive end....you cant. Bruce Smith went to four of them, Reggie didnt win one until he was with a better offensive team in Green Bay, and Peppers is still waiting. Name the number of Super Bowl teams that had great running games.....the list is too long.
Bush is the most dynamic player in the draft. He can play flanker, slot, H-back, return kicks, punts, etc. If you have the number one pick, and you were 2-14 the season prior, you take the player with the most talent. I think this pick was ignorant and a waste. Unless he leads the league in sacks, this will go down as one of the worst first picks ever. And even if he does and they dont have a winning season, they still will have to question the decision.
That sound you hear is David Carr taking his own life....no new dynamic offensive player, no great backup...not even another body to protect from the onslaught of the oppositions pass rush. He has to wonder if the Texans hate his guts.
