How Can I Cut Back Bandwidth? WEB EXPERIENCE NEEDED!!!

I know this stuff is no fun but i need some help. what excactly is bandwidth, how can i cut it down some, or can I? My sites on angelfire if that helps any. THANKS

If you are going to allow downloads, that will increase your bandwidth. I do know that much.

Bandwidth: The amount of information passing back and forth to and from your website on a day to day basis.

In practice this means that if you are allowed a bandwidth of 1GB per day, and the toal amount of informations taken from your site is equal to or above 1GB, your site will become shut down until the next cycle.

Decrease the amount of content on your webpage, disable downloads, becomes less popular, or get more bandwidth.

That's really about it. If you're maintaining a free website you probably have to battle against impossible bandwidth limitations. If you want more bandwidth, you should look into the pay sites.

Or buy a domain name and leave your computer on 24/7, acting as your own server. Hope you got good viral protection.

If your website is image-intensive or has any moderate number of images on it, resaving those images in a more compressed manner could very well save you much bandwidth. I know Adobe Photoshop as a "Save for web" function that can guide you through this, and here are several general links to tutorials:

Already good answers here, but here's my 7 cents anyway.

If I visit your website, your site responds to me by 'delivering a page' to my computer. If that page consists of 70,000 bytes of info, Angelfire dings your account 70,000 bytes. The longer I snoop around your site, the more dings you get. It adds up in a hurry.

If you want to try to shrink photos, here's a nifty photo shrinker from Micro$oft, and it's free (page down to 'Image Resizer). I have it and I like it:
