how can we hate something that makes us laugh?

Probably not talking about most of us, but if you were to ask someone if they like to laugh, 99.999999% of people would say yes? And I think its safe to say its common knowledge that tickling makes us laugh. So if someone likes to laugh, shouldn't they like to be tickled also? It's kinda funny how it doesn't work out that way.

A common response is that its a invasion of personal space. But even if they are with people they are comfortable with, still tickling is a no-no. But laughing a a yes.

Just wondering what everyone thinks about people hating something that makes us do something we love to do anyway.

:frustrated:

If you're not into tickling, I can see how it could be totally uncomfortable and stressful, especially if bondage is involved.
If someone is seriously ticklish and they don't enjoy the feeling it gives them to be tickled, than that's just that. The laughter response is only our reaction to the tickling- it has nothing to do with the tickling giving us pleasure or not.
Think of those who scream, beg, squeal, yell, or just talk while being tickled. They can be super ticklish and not laugh that much/at all.

It's roller coaster psychology. The loss of control for some can be beyond exhilarating.

Sad, I think part of the reason that people who arent into tickling.. hate to be tickled.., is because of the idea that it is often being forced upon them against their will, and causes an intense sensation/reaction. Many times, people that are into tickling, like the members of this forum.. preset a scenario to be tickled, and are ready for. and looking forward to.. the laughter and sensation. In the case of people who dont like it.., they are often surprised by. and not ready for.. or accustomed to.. the tickling.

Maybe I'm overanalyzing it, but this is just how I see it.

I have wondered how different the nerve/brain scans would be showing laughing from tickling versus laughing from your favorite comedy. I also wonder if those who enjoy being tickled would show a different scan profile versus those that hate being tickled. Being tickled gently as a baby(games play and socialization) would seem to attach laughter to tickling but only after a certain age. The laughter attached to peek-a-boo seems to wane in older children. Being crawled on by or stepping on a bug (bug theory) does not seem to be a cause for mirth.

You should conduct this experiment and post an ad somewhere for takers. You know, for science. 😀

My lab coat still has fake blood stains from Halloween and now with that NDAA thingy..... oh well there isn't a Nobel Prize for tickling anyway.

The show Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job makes people laugh, it even made me laugh once or twice. The show Jackass makes people laugh. I hate both of those things.

Mitch and some of the others are spot on. Some people hate the loss of control or being touched by people they are less familiar with. For others, they are way too ticklish to begin with and it is darn near painful, especially when the ler can't understand the concept of tickling versus clawing. Any how you get the picture.

Thanks,
K

Not everybody laughs when they get tickled, as TickleMyFancy already pointed out. Most people just laugh at first when they are caught by surprise and start screaming pretty soon.

When my feet are tickled seriously, I instinctively try not to laugh.

The sensation of being tickled is an unpleasant one, else there would be no reflex to pull away. Name one thing that feels good but your reflex is to pull away. As for the laughter, to me a better question than "why don't we like it if it makes us laugh" is "why does it make us laugh in the first place". Something that feels unpleasant but instead of making us scream it makes us laugh. To me, that's proof that God has a sense of humor.

My observations on this has been people tend to react according to how they're introduced to tickling. If they are brutally tickled against their will, they will have an obvious dislike for it. Then again, if they are gently introduced to it in a way that is more pleasant, they may just be more receptive to it. The laughing part is harder to pin down. I have had many people that were wicked ticklish that hardly laughed. Then there were those that weren't all that ticklish that had what I would call "nervous" laughter. Then there are the one that I love. They are wicked ticklish and laugh their fool heads off. Those are the best!

The sensation of tickling is pretty unique in general~ I write pretty often, but... I've always wanted to find the right words to describe a tickling sensation. It's not pain, it's not pleasure~ it's something so unique to itself. It's really hard to take, and yet, it won't kill you. It's irritating, and yet it can also be exhilarating. It's honestly a gift to me~ <3 This place between worlds.

It does sound amazing...

I would call it passionate discomfort. When the man restrained you hard because you provoked him by behaving so naughtily on some holy hour together... He dives like an evil on your side abs/pocket with his perfectly grown stubble or lips. Then you still remember those blazing eyes. Just *&^%$#@! :scream: It burns you inside and out, lose breath, but conquest and surrender is just damn SWEET.
