I always read about the love-hate relationship in why people enjoy tickling so much. But how can you love and hate something at the same time?

:runningdog:

The same way athletes become addicted to their workouts. Its always painful pushing yourself that one extra mile, but if you didn't do that, you'd get no satisfaction out of bothering with it at all.

But it is strange when you feel that excruciating tingle and it want it to stop, but then you realize you only want it to stop for a few seconds!

I can't say I hate it. It's unbearable, but that's what I like about it.

Allow me share a widely known but rarely accepted point.

It's very common to hate something that you love, and to love something that you hate. Look at it this way: with the few obligatory exceptions, people who hate their parents or siblings still love them as well. To love something, there must be an aspect of that person, object, or action which uniquely causes you pleasure or gives you a physical or emotional "good" feeling. Most people feel a genetic attraction to their family - no matter what happens, they will always love their fellow family members, even if that member does something that makes them hate the person they have become. For instance, my "father", who was a low-life, dead beat nobody recently died - and although I feel the word is a better place without him and I hope he rots in hell for the rest of eternity, on a deep down, genetic level, he was still my father, and despite my disdain for him, had I been able to fix his problems and turn him into a better person, I still would have.

When it comes to physical things such as pain, tickling, bondage, and other things of the sort, some people may hate the sensational feeling that tickling produces - the actual nerve reaction that causes you to laugh and pull away (or at least twitch). However, they may love the fact that they cannot control that sensation, in which case they probably also enjoy bondage, since it shares that lack of control thread. Someone who gets turned on by pain may hate the sensation itself, but the afterglow and the mindset that a sustained beating instills into them may be the part that they love.

I hate hangovers, but I love carrying a good buzz - so that's a love-hate relationship, in a more simplified sense.

Boom, baby. That's precisely what I am talking about.

I've also heard it said that the true opposite of love is apathy, not hate. When you hate something/someone you still carry a strong emotional attachment to it. Love and hate are two aspects of the same emotion.

Easy, it's like I love my husband more than anything in the world but I hate him sometimes.. same concept. 😀

Hm, that's not exactly it for me. I enjoy the sensational feeling, it is not uncomfortable for me. I really enjoy it, and everything that comes with it. I mean, pain causes the same physical reaction - pulling away, making sounds you can't control - but that is a whole different story. I truly hate pain and everything that comes with it. 🙂

But you are right that love and hate are pretty close to each other, especially when it comes to people!

Not saying it will be true for everyone. As I said there are exceptions to every rule.

Is there actually a lee on here who DOES hate the feeling itself?

I'm a ler, but I'll take a shot at it anyway, based on reactions of lees: It's not that they "hate" the sensation, but it's SOOOO awesomely powerful and enjoyable, their mind and body have trouble processing and enjoying it all at once. As the tickling continues, it creates a cascade effect of reception/response that goes back and forth until the person craves release, which, for lers, we always hope is a big, fat orgasm.

For me it's not all love/hate. It's mostly love/love. I love the physical sensation, the emotional response - everything, which is why I can be tickled for quite a long time.

HOWEVER, there are certain spots and/or techniques that take that awesome sensation that I love and push it a bit too far, and it becomes too intense, and that's where the hate comes in. I still love the feeling, but hate the intensity of it.

This, except everywhere.. Hench the love/hate.

I love it. I do believe there are moments where the body is saying, "Holy Shit. Do you know that you are being tickled senseless here?" The brain is however ignoring those pleas by stating, "Shut Up! This is awesome!" I love everything about the sport of tickling. It is the best feeling in the world.
