Well, I just got cable put in my room. The problem is that the cable company gave me faulty cables. I could call and have them fix it but one I don't feel like waiting forever from them to show up and two I know how to do it I just need to know how to get the coax cable through the wall. here is a picture of how my cable is hooked up to my T.V.

MY cable set up

It a rough outline of my room pretty small eh!? the coax cable runs from my T.V through the closet into the wall and it goes to the outside of the house to the cable box anyway I own an electric snake but sadly I don't know how to use it do I connect the end of one part of the coax to the snake and feed it though until I get to the other side? or should I go outside and do that from there? if anyone could help that be great. By the way im 20 years old I know that looks like an 10 year old bedroom but i don't care

You better just call the company in my opinion. If you do it yourself and have a problem later, they might charge you for a service call.

I agree that you should call the cable company, I guess. I have experience with running cable between rooms by cutting holes in the walls and installing wallplates etc, but you're talking about the cable entry point into your house from the outside (I think), so I'm not sure I could help. As well as "faulty cables" - we had that problem recently and having the cable company come out and replace them was the way to go.

Hmmmm, I took a look at your diagram, got brain freeze and ran to the fridge for another beer. I feel lots better now.

It's very unlikely that the cables themselves are faulty, if anything it's the connectors on one end or the other that are loosley connected or otherwise flakey. If you can access these connectors, mess around with them and see if that helps.

You lost me with the electric snake, not sure what that is. Sounds like something from Playboy TV.

And as to your question of how to get the coax through the wall ?
Simple, drill a hole after doing due diligence for electric wiring and gas lines inside the wall.
( re-read that last sentence 35 times before proceeding).

If all else fails, get DirecTv. Good luck.

This is actually easy to do...

Moose, the problem is most likely as TKpervert suggested.Disconnect your connectors, checking for a proper connection-screwed down all the way,not pulled off of the cable, center conductor not recessed,no corrosion present. If you discover corrosion-most likely on the outside connection- clean it off with alcohol and a toothbrush or a small wire brush.

If you find you need to replace a connector, take the old connector with you to Radio Shack or another electrical parts supplier (Lowe`s or Home Depot) and ask for help finding a replacement. They can also tell you how to put it on,which is very easy to do.

If you go through these steps, and it still doesn`t fix your problem,go back to the store and buy a cheap multimeter to ring out the cables, end to end,and center conductor to shield. The store should be able to tell you how to do this, but if not,PM me.It is easy to do,and a multimeter doesn`t cost very much.If the cable checks bad-unlikely,if the connectors are on good-then replace the cable. If the cable checks good, then call your cable company as you most likely have a bad component, either your TV,the converter box,or the switching unit of the cable company.

If you find you do need to run a new cable, you need to decide whether you want to run it like the lazy low life from your cable company did or if you want to do the job correctly.Either way,it is easy to do,bit you will need a few basic tools to do it correctly.PM me if you need help with this.I`ll be glad to describe what needs to be done. Sorry, nothing pisses me off more than a "professional"who is too lazy to do the job correctly the first time! And,yes,I realize that cable companies contract work out and pay by commission. That`s still no excuse to be lazy about an installation! 😡 :ranty:

I ran into just that when i was living with my brother. It could have been done the way i wanted it,but i got a bunch of b/s from the guy. So,i ended up with a cable running across the bedroom floor because he didnt want to take the time to do it right.

How about a bit of C4 where you roughly want it going through - it's a sure fire way of getting through stubborn brickwork. Works a treat. Here's the best part - you can put bigger things through the hole with the coax! RESULT!!!

Tie the cable through the back of your belt.....

Back up about 20 feet...

Take a good, hard run at the wall....

About 2 feet from the wall plant your strongest foot and throw a flying cross body block at the wall.

Always works for me.
