How does a webcam work?

I have heard of a webcam but I am not sure how it works. Can anyone please explain that to me? Just curious.

Usually webcams clip on top of your monitor and can be adjusted for viewing angle. I think that it would come with a driver on CD that you'd have to install and a USB cable to connect to your 'puter. You'd probably need a high-speed connection to get the best performance.

I have a laptop version of one, but the quality is really crappy if the lighting source is not good. Mine doesn't have a flash option, like a camera does.

So if you get a webcam, make sure it has a flash option or something like that, otherwise you're in for a disappointment.

what val said, its a camera that is hooked up to your computer, you can use it to take still pix or stream live video, its very useful in video conferencing. If you have a mic on your computer or on the webcam, you can also do voice chat.

I did just take pictures of myself with a one time use digital camera but when I took the camera to get developed, I got a photo CD and prints of the pictures but I didn't get the camera back. I would look into getting a web cam but it would have to be for an Apple computer.

yeah walgreens has desposable digi cams too, didnt believe it cuz they look like reg disposables

Price wise u should find nice cheap ones, i have a medion which is a avi recorder\digicam\webcam, sure u need a nuclear blast for lighting but it does do the trick
