How much do you know about sharks?

I also got 9/10. The one that got me was the question on how fast the makos sharks swim.

On a side note i believe i read once that a shark is the only animal that can't get cancer. I read that they injected sharks with cancer cells , however their bodies diverted the blood stream around the cancer thus killing it off.

I guess watching all those shark movies pays off finally.

Prime! Good to see you around again, you were badly missed!

I got the name for the young sharks wrong. I still wonder how deer antlers came into a shark's stomach!

I also got 9/10, though I must admit I guessed at 5 of them. I too missed the one on how fast they are.

Can I throw in a really embarressing story about sharks here? When i was a kid, my folks and we're camping up north. There was a drive in, and we went to see Jaws. I sat between my folks on the front seat and, since i was too small to see over the dash, they sat me on one of the boat cushions from our fishing boat. When Roy Scheider is chumming, and the shark pops out of the water, i jumped about three feet into the air.

Since then I've had an irrational fear of getting attacked by a shark. Swimming in the ocean? Nuh uh, not me. Can't even watch Discovery Channel footage of those guys going down in the shark cages. I live in the middle of the great lakes, and I fear getting eaten by a shark🙄

"But Sean, there are no sharks in the great lakes."

"Yeah there is...one big mother of a shark waiting to take my leg off."

*Heavy Sigh* There, my sin is confessed. Any psychs in the house?

The only sharks I've seen were in the waters of Grand Bahama. There was this little restaurant on the shore. As part of the nightly entertainment, every evening at around dusk the restaurant owner would take a few bushels of fish and feed the sharks, who evidently had learned where to be at dusk to get a free meal. I noticed two things about these sharks that were different than those I'd seen on TV: They were much smaller, and they weren't grey but rather a slick pink color. Dispite the size and color they were no less intimidating.

I missed what do they eat, the one about the blitz or feeding frenzy, and what happens when they stop swimming (I thought they died)

Thanks Hal...I try to stop in and participate when i can. 🙂

I got only 8 out of 10. 🙁
I've never seen a live shark except in an aquarium, not that I want to see one when swimming. 😀

Here in So Cal we have a female 17(?) y.o surfer who had her left arm removed by a shark 8 months ago. She's now surfing again on the pro circuit. THAT'S MOXIE !

She has a handle screwed onto the front of her board so she can grab it and drag the board under encroaching waves on the way out.

THAT'S MOXIE !

More power to this little gal.
