I would say it depends on how tactile you and the girl have been with each other up to that point. If you've already kissed/cuddled it could be natural to give her a tickle if she teases you.

I found/guessed no expectations about when is ok vs too soon. With some girls I tried a quick tickle on the first date, but usually it was the 2nd or 3rd. My most common ways were either to playfully "get her" if she was being a brat or withholding a secret, or to offer a foot rub and take some experimental license. 😉

But I have to disagree with the 'not innocent' take. On a date in general, there is no doubt that sex is typically the ultimate intent of at least one party. That does not make it remotely acceptable to go too far or too fast. So we begin by talking, holding hands, etc. Those initial acts are innocent in the sense of being ok; NOT too sexual. Should be the same with first tickles. Minor. Not overdone or alarming - so similarly not themselves sexual. One of us may find it attractive, but that seems little different than approaching the girl in the first place because we think she's cute!

It's just tickling, you don't have to overthink it. When it comes to women, you have to make your intentions known immediately to not have your time wasted. Women don't make men wait they're sexually attracted to, so getting sexual shows how high or low her interest level is. But seriously....these days are way different than back in the 80's and 90's when I was in my "dating" phase. Back then it woulda been cool to do a playful tickle on a first date if you already were friends and knew her. But these days be very careful as you may get called a rapist, a molester or some other untrue bullshit.

Just take it in stride and if it seems like there's physical connection going on, then go for it. If not, I wouldn't do it.

I would prefer not to waste my time going on a bunch of dates with someone I'm not compatible with. I'd imagine the lady would feel much the same. Not sure how you concluded "just tickling the gal" was the OP's only motive.

As soon as she initiates some kind of playful physical contact, that’s a pretty clear sign she’s okay with a similar response. Compliment her in a way that makes her laugh, and when she leans in to playfully smack your shoulder, poke her in the side. Never gotten a bad response from that.

Also, there’s no harm in casually dating someone who’s not ticklish or isn’t into it on the same level; casual dating increases your social circle, and you never know who you might meet through them.

In my younger days, I wasn’t as outgoing as I am now and it led to a LOT of missed opportunities.

I did tickle a girl on a first date once, and nothing bad came of it. We were both movie buffs, and hit up a local Blockbuster knock-off. I went to look for something in the horror section, while she was looking at comedies.

I didn’t see the movie I wanted so I headed her way. I managed to sneak up on her, and tickled her sides. She let out a laugh, then turned around and playfully slapped me. I got in a couple more tickles later, and she actually seemed to enjoy it.
