I though this was kind of interesting.In 1825,Joel Roberts Poinsett was appointed the first U.S. Ambassador to Mexico by President Jackson.
In 1828 he found a poinsettia plant growing wild in the countryside.When his appointment as Ambassador was up,he took some clippings back to his home in South Carolina spawning what would become a billion dollar a year industry.
