how to deal with low self confidence/esteem?

Figure I try to get as much help as I can.
Some days I feel great, other days just depressed. I try so hard to accomplish things in life, and I have almost no success. The goals and dreams I have aren't even complicated or far-fetched. I always fall flat on my face. And what do you do when people treat you like you don't matter? I know the obvious answer is to move on, but how many times can you do that until you wonder what is wrong with you?

Am I alone in this and crazy? or is this a common thing?
 
1) Identify the sources of your insecurities/low self-esteem

2) Change those things or stop worrying about those things.

Not that I'm qualified to be giving advice on this stuff (I've got my own problems that I am yet to deal with properly), but I actually think TheGerbilSystem's comment was pretty spot-on. Not that it's as easy as it has been made to sound, obviously. The first step necessitates being brutally honest with yourself, and the second step requires a good deal of courage and determination, I think. It's difficult, but people do it!

And just acknowledging that you have such issues is something. Without that initial realization, those feelings of worthlessness, of being a failure or whatever, will just be interpreted as truth, rather than a delusion which can be explained and overcome, if that makes sense.
 
I think one good way to build and raise self esteem is to try to help someone else. It could be serving food at a shelter or maybe adopting an abused animal or helping out at an animal shelter. Animals, by the way, are very good at raising self esteem they bond with people almost instantly. Its not a fix all but it does get you on a good path.

You're definitely not alone and you're most certainly not crazy...well maybe a little...but a little crazy okay. 🙂

In all seriousness, there was a lot of good advice given in this thread so be sure and take note. Like many others, I'm in a situation similar to yours in trying to be better balanced. For myself, my self confidence is bulletproof however my self esteem is sub-optimal, to put very lightly.

I would suggest to educate yourself by reading the appropriate literature and apply the concepts to your life and circumstances. A great book which I plan on re-reading soon is Psycho-Cybernetics by Dr. Maxwell Maltz. I'm currently struggling a bit and plan on going in for a ''tune-up'', if you would, be giving this book another read.

Great interview below and would highly recommend giving the book a read.
