Nightgaunts guard Ngranek, an infamous mountain on the isle of Oriab. They sometimes capture unwary climbers, tickling them into submission with their claws and barbed tails, and carry them to the lower reaches of dreamland.

Well, having read most of Lovecraft's work, I had noticed that too (I believe it is in the story "the dream quest of unknown Kadath"). I have always wondered what Lovecraft's intention was when he wrote it.
Hm... this might be interesting stuff for another tickling drawing...

I once read that the Nightgaunts represented the horror the author felt about being touched by others in his own nightmares.He also suffered from a stomach ailment that gave him a horrible internal tickling sensation when he was young.
Since I'm a tickle fetishist,tickling to me is the ultimate thrill,but to others it can be detested to the point of it becoming a phobia(Pteranophobia) which was probably the case with the great Lovecraft.
