It's a good thing for the Dallas Cowboys that the America's Team nickname isn't subject to a vote.

The Green Bay Packers were by far the most popular team with voters surveyed by Public Policy Polling, according to results released Wednesday by the organization. The Packers received 22 percent of the votes, twice as many as the Cowboys.

The next most popular teams were the Chicago Bears, New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers, who each received eight percent of the votes.

The Cowboys might not be the America's most popular team, but they are clearly the most polarizing.

The Cowboys easily topped the list of the Public Policy Polling voters' least favorite teams. Dallas got 22 percent of the votes in that category, twice as many as the Bears. The Packers (eight percent) received the next most votes for least favorite.

According to Public Policy Polling, it surveyed 700 American voters from Dec. 16 to 18. The margin of error for the survey, according to the organization, is plus or minus 3.7 percent.

I know, Dallas has "earned" it. Maybe back in the day, but not recently.

And yes, we can talk about how bad polls are.....but just wanted to show that while Dallas is popular, much like my beloved Fighting Irish....the sway just isn't what it used to be.

Americans love a winner and that's not the Dallas Cowboys these days. The team from deep in the Republic of Texas has been replaced as the nation's most popular team.

Aaron Rodgers' Super Bowl-winning Green Bay Packers were picked by 22 percent of voters as their favorite team in the NFL, according to Public Policy Polling's newest national survey. The Cowboys finished second, with 11 percent of the vote, followed by the Bears, Giants and Steelers.

NFL Films famously gave the Cowboys the title of "America's Team" in a 1978 highlight film. The program opened up with this intro: "They appear on television so often that their faces are as familiar to the public as presidents and movie stars. They are the Dallas Cowboys, America's Team."

A generation later, Dallas was actually picked as America's least favorite NFL team. The Cowboys got 22 percent of the negative vote, beating out the Chicago Bears' 8 percent and Green Bay's 7 percent for the title.

This was a bipartisan pigskin vote: Republicans (60 percent), Democrats (44 percent) and Independents (44 percent) all picked the Packers over the Cowboys.

It won't turn down the heat on Tony Romo , but at least he knows people care.

The results of a recent Harris Poll show that the Dallas Cowboys rank as the NFL's most popular team for the fifth year in a row.

Pollsters generated results through an online survey of 2,462 adults. The study, orchestrated Sept. 12-19, indicates that America loves a winner, with the Packers, Steelers, Patriots and Bears rounding out the top five.

It doesn't take long for people to hop on the bandwagon, either, with the Detroit Lions rising 11 spots to No. 19 after spending last year buried at No. 30. The New York Jets and Washington Redskins finished tied for the No. 9 spot.

Sorry, Jacksonville, but your Jaguars ranked last for the third consecutive year. No word on if David Garrard had a vote on this one.

We look at these results, and it's crystal clear: Dallas isn't required to take the Super Bowl -- or even win consistently -- to command the nation's attention. Whether or not you believe the "America's Team" label is an outdated tag, it's clear the Cowboys' caravan of hype isn't going away anytime soon.

Im a greenbay fan. I Liked watching the fact with the fall and stipulation over the Brett Farve contreversy and Rogers, jennings, and hawk took over and went from undertog to top dog within roughly 2 seaons and the first was close and was an AMAZING game. I enjoy the cowboys but they just seem to be like the old signfeld episodes , sorry tickle fiend but Im only saying Greenbay's offensive line is amazing and It's like a paden manning scenario. Take out the Leaders and the defense can't support it, as in the chiefs game pretty much exploited last week.

I love the fact that cowgirls fans like to bring up polls, ratings, fans, and any other excuse they can to disguise the single one fact they can't dispute: The Cowgirls haven't been jackshit on a football field since 1996. Period.
