*Very sorry, and that's totally ridiculous.
Am also very sorry to hear this -- and my impression was the same regarding the basis for a legal suit -- I don't know anything about the laws in Georgia,
but if there are lawyers in your area who give free consultations, I'd double check to be sure you have no other options.
Your totally unethical former employer is simply disgusting.
Waiting 2 months to sack you for something most likely out of your control
--- alone, is likely proof the claim is bogus.
Especially if you haven't called in absent since, and don't normally call in that frequently ---
The record of your hours worked should back you up.
And especially if/when you can probably provide paperwork proving the accident in June caused your inability to attend work the 6 days in question (way back then...)
--- a police report,
--- insurance documents with dates from your insurance company
--- and/or from the body shop where the car/s involved were fixed --- ?
I don't see how an unjust firing of this sort can be legal, and if it is
those laws need to be updated from the 14th Century.
Sometimes merely threatening a lawsuit upon all the above,
especially if you have a good attendance record & when there is nothing more the sh*ts can do to you, may be enough as well.
Easier to say this than to do it, putting yourself on the air and revealing your personal difficulties, but if there is a local public television station, I'd say this abuse is newsworthy.
Either that or a letter to the local newspaper's editor -- Again, perhaps publicity will only make you more miserable, but that is another option.
