It just seems like so far off, not that i want to rush summer or anything but i really can't wait to see what my team will do this year (Hopefully quite alot)

I miss it too. The only good thing about summer ending is that football begins.

Not really high on my list, to be honest.

But if I must pick a team, GO BEARS.

American football is a girly game. They put a ton of pads on, and have plays that last 5 seconds.

Rugby and Australian football, that's where it is. Hardly any pads and play continues til someone scores.

Seriously, I do like college football. But worldwide, they look wussy.

You really can't compare that to American football. The games are so different....

Very true. It's just laughable when American football is considered a 'manly' sport.

Heh, i suppose auto racing is wussy now because they've enhanced the safety of the cars?

Also, back in the day, only protection football players had was a leather helmet

I can't wait either, giggleygirl. Not just pro football but college too. But, I have baseball to tide me over til then

So then why is that the only position that a rugby or Austrailian Rules football player has played in the NFL is as a punter? I could be wrong, but I haven't heard of any.

Oooooooooooo, so tough!

Takes intelligence and toughness to play in the NFL, not just running around clotheslining people.

It's not continuous either, there are as many if not more restarts then there are in a game of soccer.

I enjoy rugby and austrailian as well, competition is awesome, but i'll take Ronnie Lott or Ray Lewis running full speed against any of those guys...pads or no pads..

Is it as much as American football?

Firstly your picking 2 of the best ever.

I like football, the NFL I can do without, but College football is awesome. The Crimson Tide and the SEC are my favorite. To me football involves more skill than anything.

And this is a bad thing?I am not an expert on soccer or Aussie football, but as far as i know neither sport involves men of the size and speed of NFL players coming into contact with each other on every play like the NFL.All are fine sports. Its comparing apples and oranges to say one is better then the other.Whatever you enjoy the most is the best sport for you.😀

i cant wait for pro football to return. damn, a little over 2 months from now and everything will be good again...

I always have to laugh at people from other nations who think American football players are not "manly". I have seen Australian Rules football and Rugby and believe me, those guys are psychos. HOWEVER, the American athletes are bigger, stronger and faster. How many Australian Rules football players or rugby players 6'5'', 255 pounds and can run a 40 yard dash in 4.38 seconds? The collisions in American football are a lot more forceful than any rugby hit. Simple physics. The amount of force applied in an American football collision is greater than that of Australian Rules football or rugby. Why? The athletes are better and because they do wear pads, American football players think they are invincible, so they hit even harder, thinking the pads will protect them.

I would love to see ANY rugby player or Australian Rules football player participate in a NFL training camp and see how well they survive. Let's see how manly they really are.... I hope they have good medical insurance...

It's not bad at all. And its rugby and Aus. football. And yes, many who play are big men who take and give many big hits frequently throughout a game. About enjoyment, I like college football better than any other sports. It was just a comment I've been thinking of.
So many view football as brutal. It's a good game, but for the most part a game of skill.

My bad, sorry.I'm not sure how much NFL play you have seen, but the things that go on between the offensive and defensive linemen can be pretty nasty. It's not often something you can see on tv or even in person, but some of the stories i have heard...😱

such as?

I'd rather take a hit from a 6'6 300lb man in pads, and me in pads(football), than a 6'4 240lb man with no pads(rugby)

Many former NFL players end up crippled for life, and their life span is almost 20 years shorter then average for American men. It's because of the pounding they take.I think you just dont understand what a violent game it is.

I dont think jugner understands what the NFL is really like. Sorry, i would rather take my chances with a 240 pound man hitting me without pads, than a 300 pound man hitting me with pads. why? the pads cause people to "forget" the fact that their hits are dangerous. It's a mental block. People think with pads, you can get hit hard with no repercussions. Simple physics. The 300 pound guy is actually moving FASTER and hitting HARDER than rugby players do to each other. The simple fact that the NFL players are bigger, strong, and faster should tell you that the impact of the hits are greater than any rugby hit.

If you think NFL players are "wimps", then what about hockey players? They have pads as well...

I agree. NFL players would make Rugby players cry to their mommies in a heart beat.

I mean, in terms of stamina, the Rugby players have it by far.

In terms of taking a hit, the rugby players would be in the hospital.

First, I never said footbal players were wimps.

Second I had a friend in college, who played on the football team for 3 years, was good, but missed a couple of practices and got kicked off, he got on an intermural rugby team, after 1 game he quit, he said it was way to rough, he had been a fullback, was 6'1, 250lbs, had taken many big hits, but he said rugby was worse.

And the big men in football are not faster than the big men in rugby

first of all, what's the largest size of a rugby player? I dont think the largest rugby player is bigger than the largest NFL players. Now, most O-linemen are "slow", but the NFL defensive linemen are FAST. Guys like Jevon Kearse, Julius Peppers, even a "fat" guy like Levon Kirkland was incredibly fast. Most NFL defensive linemen are freaks of nature.

Then you have to get to the linebackers. I dont know about you jugner, but i would rather take a chance with a rugby player trying to blast me than a guy like Ray Lewis or Brian Urlacher coming at me full speed with every intention to destroy me. Not just tackle me, but to do one of those "you got JACKED UP!!" hits on me.

Rugby is a brutal sport, no doubt about it. But to those other nations who believe American football players are "wimps", if an Australian Rules football player, or a rugby player were to put on pads and play a NFL game, they would definitely change their mind when it comes calling football players "wimps" because they put on pads. I mean, there are players hurling through the air like a damn missle with the sole purpose of knocking your lights out. simple physics folks, simple physics.
