It's true. I arrived home from work tonight about 9:20. It's very dark at my house at night, as a live up a dirt road in a rural area. There are no streets, much less street lights. I get out of my car and for a moment I just take in the darkness. My wife usually leaves a light on, but tonight I guess she wanted to discourage any Halloween activity. Just as I was thinking this thought a very bright light appeared in the sky through the trees. It seemed to elongate and then collapse again.
"What in God's name was that??" I asked myself. For a ridiculous moment, it seemed that someone had installed some new kind of electric wide angle spot light in the treetops. I listened. There was no sound whatsoever. I watched that area of the sky intently for the next minute or so, but nothing. I finally decided I wanted to be inside, and that I'd watched one too many episodes of The X-Files.
An hour later, I'm hearing on Fox 5 News At Ten that several people in the area reported seeing a bright light in the sky. From Leesburg, VA to Hagerstown, MD. According to this same news report, what we all saw was a meteor! Now I've stayed up to watch predicted meteor showers before, but I've never seen anything like this. It actually lit up my yard for a moment. I'd love to know if and where this thing landed. And what are the chances of such a thing happening on Halloween, of all nights?
