This is the memorial set in place for the brave men who took it upon themselves to save innocent lives, and assault the terrorists who had hijacked flight 93, which crashed over rural Pennsylvania. Todd Beamer, the passenger who apparently put together the plan, had made a cell phone call to his wife shortly before the heroic feat.

Lisa Beamer said her husband called Jefferson on a GTE Airfone at 9:45 a.m., after the passengers aboard his flight had learned that Flight 11 hit the World Trade Center. By that time, the hijackers aboard Flight 93 had stabbed one passenger to death. The United pilots, Jason Dahl and Leroy Homer, had also been injured, Beamer told Jefferson, though he did not say how seriously.

"Deena," Todd Beamer told her, "If they're going to crash the plane into the ground, we have to do something. We can't wait for the authorities. We have to do something now."

Beamer, a , and the GTE supervisor recited the Lord's Prayer...
Beamer dropped the phone and was heard saying: "God help me. Jesus help me."...

"Are you guys ready?" the operator heard the 32-year-old Beamer ask fellow passengers aboard United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed into the Pennsylvania countryside 80 miles southeast of Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Then he said: "Let's roll."

edit- Jefferson was the GTE operator, BTW

Things like this make me proud to be an American. Let Freedom Ring.

thank you Krokus! it was touching. i have a tattoo drawn up around here somewhere safe that says FDNY 343 and 9-11(with the 11 being the towers) even tho i know so many more gave their lives, ive always wanted to be a fireman. that day crushed me..and everyone seen just how patriotic i really was.(its a shame no one noticed b4..that a disaster had to occur b4 we all became patriotic!)

I don't think that was the case, the majority of Americans are very patriotic people, it's just that when a tragedy of that magnitude happens, it tends to burn brighter....

I'd also like to add that there are many theories as to what happened, many seem to think that 3 F-16's shot the plane down...I think that that is a ridiculous claim, and it's obvious that some people just want to diminish what these brave men did.

all i have to say....LET'S ROLL! <--i still get chills hearin that said by Bush to the Army men and women

Although I , personally, do not agree with the way President Bush has gone about with his war on terror, I still say LET'S ROLL on this war against terror.

RIP all victims of 9/11 and may the healing continue for all of those hit hardest by the tragedy.

Yes, thanks for posting this one, Krokus. Now, sorry if this is a stupid question, but is this memorial located where they went down, or somewhere else? I can read something about Colorado in the lower corner, and it just made me curious.

well, according to the article, it is indeed located where they went down. I didn't post the entire article because it is far too big....but that is the most important part.

An amazing sight, Krokus. Thank you for posting. It is a sobering reminder of that tragic day. God rest the souls of Todd Beamer, and all the other victims of that horrible day in Sept, 2001. It was a day that none of us will forget for the rest of our lives.

Mitch

Thanks for posting that Krokus. It's a gentle but firm reminder of what a true hero is.

Thanks a bunch for the heads-up Krokus. I'm gonna be in that area this weekend and I intend to look this up.

It says "Grateful Colorado citizens".

It may have been donated by someone from Colorado...perhaps a family or company of someone who was on the flight? Either way, a touching tribute.
