I want to write a story but I need to know which characters to use. I was thinking brian griffin but I don't know who I should have tickle him?

Consider using your own characters. There's no law that says a beginning writer has to start by writing fanfic - and I'd say that it's not even a good idea.

Try making up two or three characters of your own and writing a tickle-story about them. Create a character out of the whole cloth, or create an amalgam out of two or three existing characters (possibly from different settings). OK, maybe it's hard, or it's something that just doesn't work very well for you. But at least try it before deciding to toss it over to write fanfic about Brian Griffin getting tickled.

If you need a kick-start or a challenge to get started, how about this:

Frank Renwood

That's just a name I made up on the spur of the moment and gave to you. He's your character now. Tell me who he is and write a story about him getting tickled. Or maybe you'll decide that he's the one doing the tickling. Go for it.

tickle2death200, listen to the bearded one above. It's all solid advice, and best of all, it's FREE!

Srsly. If you're not even imaginative enough as a writer to at least consider creating characters out of whole cloth, then in all likelihood, you are not going to be able to pull off a memorable Family Guy fanfic.

That said, if you are absolutely dead-set on this particular show to draw characters from, then how about wowing me with a Brian/Lois(or Lois/Brian?) tickling combo?

What?!? It could be hee-larious!

To be fair, coming up with original characters or settings is the Hard Part for some people. What I'm advising is for tickle2death200 to give it a shot anyway, rather then pre-emptively surrendering the point.

And likewise for other new writers: "Give Originality a Chance."

Actually, this story just sort of writes itself...

STEWIE: All right, dog, behold my latest invention!

BRIAN: What is it? It looks like the machine you used to make everyone sound like Adam West.

Cutaway to ADAM WEST (voiced by Patrick Stewart): You meddling kids. I'll get my voice back yet!

PETER: (voiced by ADAM WEST): So, Lois, you want to come slide down my batpole?

LOIS: (also voiced by ADAM WEST): Oh.. now.. Peter... ahahahah (embarassed laugh.)

BACK to Stewie and Brian

STEWIE: No, dog. It's not like that at all. It's a tickle machine. I will bring the world to its knees through laughter.

BRIAN: Yeah, okay, Pinky. I don't have time for this, I have a date with-

STEWIE: Brain.

BRIAN: What?

STEWIE: You said 'Pinky.' It wasn't Pinky who thought up the inventions. It was the Brain.

BRIAN: Well, what difference does that make? What would have mattered if Pinky had come up with something?

BRIAN and STEWIE look at the camera expecting a cutaway gag.

Long beat.

BRIAN starts backing away slowly.

STEWIE: Yeah. Meddling Fox executives sent our funniest writers to the Cleveland Show. We've got nothing. But here's something sure to make you laugh...

(Commercial.)

Well, you didn't have to make it look THAT damned easy, lady! :lol Bravo! You should be writing for TV!

I suppose I sounded rather harsh. I had just returned from perusing the tickling interactives over on Writing.com, virtually all of which are fanfic based, and mostly cookie-cutter garbage.

As an occasional writer, I've just never understood utilizing already-thought-up characters, be they from anime/TV/movies/etc. To me, that is actually more work, as I then have to have a fairly good idea of the character's mannerisms, motivations and so on. Much simpler (in my view) to just roll with a brand new character.

But anyway, depending on the writer, either whole-cloth or prefab characters can be either interesting or bland, so my apologies if I came off sounding snarky in my original reply.

For me, creating new characters & settings is the fun part. But I try to recognize that other writers are different. And (as you pointed out) good fan-fic can be very good.

There's also the option of "filing off the serial numbers and slapping on a new coat of paint"
