I have been living in Manhattan since 1978. This is the first time that the winter was so cold that there is still ice on part of The Pond in Central Park in April. 😱
In 2006 we had a big snow storm in April here. But the snow on the streets melted quickly, within 24 hours, and there was no ice on The Pond--it melted upon hitting the water. This was the first winter since 1978 in which sustained cold, week after week, kept the ice from melting into April.
