If someone absolutely hates being tickled, why do they still laugh? Why don't they scream bloody murder?
I'm sure there is some scientific fact or something that explains it... :idunno:

No idea, but I think they scream more in an agry sorta way than they do actually laugh. They'll laugh but it won't be that pleasant lol.

I thought laughter was a natural reaction to being tickled whether you like it or not. Maybe it depends on how ticklish the person is and how they are being tickled.

They'll still laugh, they just won't have fun. I suppose it's the same principle about your eyes tearing up when exposed to onions.

It could be legitimate nervous laughter, like when you're younger, and an older brother or stronger friend is chasing you around trying to punch you. You really do hate it, but the situation makes you laugh, and possibly even aggravates you if you're called out on your laughter, as they claim you like what's going on.

Trust me, they won't laugh very long! The bloody murder screaming starts after the first involuntary reaction.

I think the laughter is genuine - to a certain degree, they can't help it. But once they realize what is happening, they'll freak out, stop laughing and start screaming, and other potentially unpleasant responses....

In my experience, yes. I've seen girls and women who claim they hate the be tickled, being tickled, and they laugh hysterically, and it looks genuine.

The reason, I think, is because for many people, reactions to tickling is a reflex reaction. While some people claim they can control their ticklish reactions, my experience as a very ticklish person has been that when someone starts tickling you, no matter who it is, the sensation is so intense, it causes you to laugh involuntarially.

Even though I'm a switch when it comes to tickling, I hate to be tickled by guys. Yet, when I was tickled by my male roommate in college, and guys in summer camp, I still laughed incredibly hard, even though I hated to be tickled by a guy. One male bunkmate I had used to tickle my feet all the time, and made me furious, but yet I still laughed hysterically. I could not control the laughter, even though I hated that a guy was tickling me.

Maybe this isnt true for everyone, but what I described has always been my experience.

Some people laugh, some people scream, some people do both. It's involuntary and bizarre. It's all genuine, though.

Nice post Mitch. Thanks! 🙂

it's ginuine. Whether you like to b tickled or not, it still tickles and your reaction to it would be (usually) the same as if you liked it. I say usually because people that don't like being tickled will sometimes try to fight it and so they wouldn't have the same reaction all the time. But if they're laughing and stuff, it's ginuine... saying somethings not ginuine means that it's not's real, it' fake, and they're real reactions whether they like it or not.
