If you caught a burglar in the act...

Well okay, but as I said in the beginning, when the guy spotted me holding my shotgun, he took off out of the backdoor and hopped over the fence and disappeared down the alley. I still say I probably should have blasted him from the get go. Why do I say that? Because after my home, he probably busted in to somebody else's home and might have really hurt someone there. Perhaps I could have kept that from happening to them if I had acted when I had the chance.

Well, let's hope you never find yourself in that situation again. If you were to ever have to pull the trigger on an intruder in your home, this post could probably be dug up and used against you in court.
 
I've taken a few extra precautions since that happened. For one thing, we were planning on getting a dog anyway, this incident gave us more of an excuse to stop putting it off. Today we actually have two really big mean and scary looking dogs,one doberman, and the other is a Shepard and they don't like strangers. When company comes over we have to put the dogs out back. And of course a new alarm system is in place too. And yes, a couple more large and powerful guns have been purchased too.
 
If it ever does happen again (God forbid) things are going to end differently. One way or another.
 
This is starting to sound more and more like a superhero origin story....
 
It sounds like things ended reasonably well last time. You chambered a round, the burglar ran off, no one got hurt.

Wolf if I was a superhero he wouldn't have been able to get away. I'd just fly after him catch him, then hand deliver him to the closest police department.
 
Sensual switch, but did the next person who's house he broke into fair as well? Obviously we'll never know On that one. But guys like him don't stop committing burglaries until some home owner stops them himself. Sad but true.

They don't all fly, you know.
You could be like Squirrel Girl, or something.
 
No I couldn't be a squirrel girl, seeing as how I'm a man. That kind of rules out the squirrel girl things right from the gate. :zombies:

I get where your coming from, with not wanting to be a victim and not wanting some other innocent person to be victimized either. That being said, preventing someone from commiting a hypothetical future crime is not justification for using deadly force. If you ever shot someone who broke into your house and said that to the police, your "superhero costume" would most likely be an orange jumpsuit for the rest of your life.

And you guys really sucked all the fun / fantasy out of this thread. It was about fantasy, no?

Actually, the OP presented it as a hypothetical, and people immediately called him out on the implausibility of it.
 
Well, I can tell you if someone breaks into my house, the only way they're leaving is in a body bag! I'm not going to wait to see what they want. I don't care! They broke into my house, they don't want to have a cocktail! I don't care if they didn't get hugged enough as a child, or they have a drug "problem". I have no idea what their intentions are and I'm not going to wait for them to harm or kill me to find out. If that worries you or "offends" you, GOOD! Don't break into my house!
