If you have seen the movie Se7en, here is the question

But the surprising thing to me is that this movie hasn't generated any copycat stuff in real life, you would've thought the genius of his work would've done such

It's hard to say what I might do in that situation. I can imagine if I had lost my wife to a murdering bastard I'd want to empty the clip in his face, but if any rational thought stayed with me I'd realize there are worse things you can do besides kill someone. Keeping him alive would ruin his masterpiece, but before I turned him over I'd beat him to near death, then cut off his hands, dick, and stab his eyes out. Imagine living blind, without hands, and no dick, in jail, for the rest of your life. If I could manage to not kill him in blind rage that is.

Well, what motivates serious serial killers seems more personal and not something they've seen in the movies. That said, there are a couple of nutty Batman-type nuts out there... The "Chessboard Killer", (and here), is one such individual.

Probably if it was someone who I felt attached to the way Mills was attached to Tracy. However, you have to keep in mind that Mills was a temperamental meathead of a character; he's the kind of guy who would have been on the football team in high school, which is why he's so snarky, easily angered, and academically challenged (remember when he tries to read Dante in the cop arrives with the Cliff's Notes? And that was only after a few seconds). Mills was too impulsive and mercurial to begin with, which may have been one of the reasons John Doe went after his wife to complete the mission. That's why Somerset went after the delivery truck: he wanted to make sure that Mills didn't overreact to whatever was going to happen next.

That and Somerset didn't have any family to target; also, watch how Doe deals with Somerset in the film...he does whatever he can to maintain distance; he KNOWS Somerset is smart enough to thwart his entire plan which is why he's nervous and careful when Somerset speaks to him.

Probably. If someone killed the person I loved enough to marry, and many know my opinions on marriage, I'd probably shoot the guy. I'm pretty sure in that moment, I would be temporarily insane, and though I'd be unhappy with my decision in the long run, I'd most likely shoot him. In the moment, I wouldn't be thinking rational and unfortunately, I'd end up giving the guy what he wanted.

Yep, I'd kill him. The fact that I'd be doing what he wanted wouldn't outweigh the fact that I'd be killing the man who had murdered my wife.

As much as I would prefer to see him rot in prison for life,at that moment when I saw her decapitated head in a box I would most likely lose all control. So my answer is yes,I would waste the mother f**ker.🙂

Good question sparked by a great movie. It's been too long since I've watched it. Anyway....

Yeah... I can imagine that after it happened, I'd understand what Morgan Freeman was talking about, and by then I wouldn't want to "complete the vision" so to speak. But...
If you deliver me my wife's (and mother of my unborn child) head in a box.... you're getting shot to death on the spot.

I hear you in theory, but frankly I don't believe you (or anyone else I know) would be thinking that logically in the heat of the moment with your true love's head in a box AND she was carrying your now never-to-be-born baby. And if you are capable of thinking that clearly under such circumstances you'd be a droid and no one would have married you anyways :neenerneener:

Exactly. I love how people get so academic in these discussions. Ms. Bella is right-on here. I'd be so enraged and devastated that I probably wouldn't even remember to shoot John Doe in the groin and stomach so that he dies slowly.

Awesome concept for a movie though. Easily one of the best movies I've ever seen.

If I'm not mistaken, Pitt got away with killing that character.

If we are to assume that I could get away with killing that guy, I wouldn't have...

I would've injured him so bad, he would spend the rest of his life begging for death.

Yes, you are mistaken...I'm pretty sure in the end he was being driven away in the back of a squad car.

Of course he could always plead temporary insanity later, but that wasn't part of the movie...

I guess I always watched that scene with the idea in mind that no jury would convict him.

In real world situations where someone is inspired to kill someone in a fit of rage as retaliation for something truly horrible done, juries will sometimes recommend "time served" as the sentencing if conviction occurs.

In other cases, no conviction even occurs because the jury sympathizes with the defendant.

Granted, as you said, we never see Pitt's character in court, so it's not known what his ultimate fate is.

I concur. There's no way he'd go to jail for killing a serial killer who had offed 6 people and beheaded his wife. I can't see how any jury would ever convict him in that situation. There is a very good possibility that he'd lose his job for it though.

Oh, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be allowed to be a cop after that. I don't think he'd want to remain one anyway.

Yes, I wouldn't want him giving interviews to Diane Sawyer on primetime insulting me and my wife for the rest of my days. Then again one can't really know what one is going to do unless a person is in that extreme situation. Awesome movie though! :chocrabbit:

I guess I must be in the minority, because either way you slice it, she is not coming back, so, since he has given me pain, I will give it back to him by not letting him complete the masterpiece, then he wishes he would've been dead. That fact alone will kim worse than any bullet could
