If you think YOU play a lot of video games...

11 minutes? PAH!

I may not have beaten it in 11 minutes, but once (during an overnight gaming festival in the basement of a friend with very forgiving parents) I did play it for 13 hours straight.

Basically, this guy's parents were very well-off, and he had every video game platform in existence at the time (along with a nice TV for each one) as well as two computers. There weren't many people there, so we basically each picked our favorite system and went at it from late in the afternoon until dawn the next morning. Occasionally some of the people would leave to challenge their friends, but I had yet to experience SM3 at the time, and I refused to budge. I did play a few 2-player games, though.

Okay, I'm going to watch that video, now...

*11 minutes later*

Holy f***

Although, I don't think that particular trick with the two magic flutes works in the American version of the game.

And he skipped to level 8....

What fun is it to not experience the entire game?

thats really cool, but it's fake. the guy used an emulator and pieced it together and basically played frame by frame. Neat to watch though. This has been around the net for awhile.

The whole point of that was to show mastery over the game by beating it in the fastest humanly possible amount of time. It's part of a new form of entertainment out on the web- Video Game Time Attacks and Speed Runs.

Krokus has the short of it.. Use of an emulator to play the game allows a slower frame rate so you can react quicker, then the use of save states for anywhere in the game means you don't have to replay the whole thing if you mess up.

I got together with some friends over the summer to try and do a time attack for an old NES game that was sadly, rejected. Alas.

Morimoto's SMB 3 I think will be the definitive time attack video, though there are slightly faster versions out there. His Mega Man 2 is incredible to watch and so was his Mega Man 1 video until it was outstripped.

You can find more of these fun gems here: http://bisqwit.iki.fi/nesvideos/

For those with good patience and good bandwidth- check out this amazing Half Life time attack here: http://www.planetquake.com/sda/other/halflife.html

There should be a few other good ones on that site as well for other games.
