If you're a lawyer in this country, dont get sick..

I was just reading a very interesting article on AOL. Acoording to the article, an ever increasing number of doctors are refusing to treat patients who are lawyers, especially those who are trial lawyers, for fear of being sued by their lawyer patients. Many of us are aware of the rampant medical malpractice suits in America in recent years, and the large judgements that are often handed out by jury verdicts. It seems that doctors are becoming ever more wary of who they treat due to this scenario. This is a scary thought for any lawyer who happens to get sick. While some doctors interviewed for the article claim that they dont take patients based on the patient's line of work, still other doctors appear to be wary. I'm not a lawyer. but it is a sobering thought in regard to the issue of lawyers getting sick, and the treatment they would receive.

There was a case some years ago in which a landlord in NYC who refused to rent apartments in his buildings to lawyers was sued by a lawyer who had wanted to rent one. The landlord won the suit, it being held that discriminating on the basis of profession was not against the law.

The landlord remarked that he had made that rule because every single lawyer he had ever had as a tenant wound up suing him.

I can understand your rant and I agree in spirit. Unfortunately, according to the laws of our great land, it is illegal to discriminate under those circumstances. Me being mostly anti-landlord, if the slumlords took care of their property and the tenants who keep them in money, maybe some of this wouldn't happen.

Oh, the "slumlord" comment only applies to those where the shoe fits. There are a few good ones out here....somewhere.
