and am home alone with no life like me (giggles) Dateline is going to run a segment this hour in memorium of the the anniversary of JFK Jr.'s death. (We share the same birthday) and when I lived in Boston, I visited their summer home in Newport, Rhode Island. It's a total touristy thing to do (you also get to tour the Von Bulow mansion and the home where they filmed The Great Gatsby) but I actually rode the elevator with Jackie O. who sometimes visited to make sure the tour was up to par. She was amazing, so nice to a dumb star-struck kid...

I'm the same with my Silician roots and my father's Cherokee ones. I love it. I actually work with a guy who's last name is obviously Latino. I asked if he was Spanish or Mexican. He actually said, "What's the difference?" OMG! I'm like, "dude, it's a completely different continent!!!" 🙄

My mother is hispanic, and my father was/is welsh.

Oh, I know, huh?! LOL Its just like with Europeans. If they look european and sound european they are automatically british. Its like welsh, irish, scottish, german, and maybe even french etc, are all the same thing.If you can't tell physically, which you should be able to sometimes, then the accent is a clear giveaway.

The same is true for asians. If you look chinese or sound chinese you are, even though you might be japanese, vietnamese, or even korean. And those are pretty big differences.

But with your co-worker, he probably just doesn't care too much. Or, you can go with the outside shot that he's ignorant or even ashamed of his roots too much to answer you.

Or it could just be that he wanted to be funny. 😀

Well you do bring up some good points. I know he was part Italian as well and although his father was in his life, he clearly didn't think too highly. I walked in to interview a patient the other day and I introduced myself (in English). She said "habla espagnol?" I said, "un porquito, mi amigo Jose'..." (Jose is my partner in crime, born here but his parents are from Mexico.) She laughed and shook her head, then made a motion much like the deaf do in reference to my face. (They circle their own with one hand.) She thought because I was tan and I guess looked "ethnic" that I must be Latin. It was cute. I laughed and said, "No...Parle Italiano?" She again laughed and shook her head no. (In the end I ended up sending Jose anyhow...I wanted to see what was wrong with her, why she'd been admitted...😀 😀 😀 )

I guess it would be pretty easy for people to make misunderstandings like that.

When I'm talking calmly my voice isn't as deep. One time, I was on the phone with a technician, and she thought I was a woman and called me ma'am. LOL! 😀

Then I'm like "I'm a man, ma'am."

Then she's like "ohh, sorry"

Then one time I was mistaken for a woman in public by an old lady. I was in a GW hobby shop, and I was sitting down painting, my back turned to her. Now, I have a small frame and long hair. So I guess it would have been possible for her to mistake me for a girl.

Anyways, an employee was talking to her, and she said something like " whats that young lady doing over there?"

I heard her, turned around and looked at her, and then she said something like "oh" and then gave me a weird look which was obviously a paw-off on me because she felt too embarassed to say 'excuse me' or 'I'm sorry'.

It was pretty funny though. ^__^

OMG, this is so funny! When I first got together w/my guy, he lived in an apt complex. It was raining (water is my other fetish) and I talked him into sharing a bottle of my fave (Red Oak Cabernet) and sneaking into the hot tub after hours. His hair was long too (before he went corporate) and way thick. We were just getting friendly in the hot tub, it was about midnite, he thought it would be cute to remove my top and make out with me. After about 15 mins, we hear a voice behind us...
"UM, excuse me LADIES???" All six foot three of him, hairy chest and all rose up out of the hot tub, wheeled around to say in his big bad booming voice "YES?????"
You should have seen the embarassed look on this poor security guy's face, here he thought he'd caught two lesbians in the act of a hot makeout session <gg>
We laughed our asses off. I bet that guy still thinks of us 😀 ...

I know, dude, it happened like almost 15 years ago, we still crack up about it. Nah, they can't arrest ya for being it hot tub after hours. The guy just said, "Ah, um, tub's closed y'all. You gotta go." So we did. I hope the poor bastard eventually recovered...
