Unlike almost everyone else on this forum, I had pretty much no family tickling during my childhood. But every time I think about being tickled by a family member I cringe. With female friends I can pass it off as a playful thing. Even if the tickling isn't sexual, it would acceptable for me to be sexual with them. It's sort of like dancing with a friend at a party. With family, the fact that tickling turns me on totally freaks me out.

Yeah, what she said. For me tickling can be sexual (and frequently is), but it doesn't have to be. When I tickle my wife in the privacy of our bedroom, when we're being intimate, it's a totally different intention and experience then when I tickle my kid. In the former, it's sexual. In the latter, it is entirely playful, and not even remotely sexual at all. Context is everything.
I think the idea that it can be sexual makes it awkward with people you could never be sexual with. I can kiss my mother on the cheek to say thank you for something nice she has done for me, but I obviously wouldn't kiss her passionately. However, I can't differentiate that with tickling as much as I couldn't sleep with somebody to say thank you for something etc. because tickling is just sexual to me, its how it is.

Wow! Interesting thread. I can see both sides here. I have been fortunate to be able to clearly separate family from sexual in this regard. I am not at all ticklish but I do have many nieces and nephews and a child of my own who gets tickled by me. It's strange; if I was in a room with my son and with any random non-related woman, I could tickle him without even the thought of the sexual aspect coming to mind. But if I even accidentally tickled the woman, I'd be turned on. It's not a conscious thing; it just happens. Of course, I'd never tie up and tickle a relative. 🙂

Thanks skipadeedoodah, that was probably personally the most helpful post on this thread. I guess i never thought that tickling can be sexual on different levels. I guess for me, its completely sexual. I can't see it any other way. and if a friend does it, thats okay, beause i would hook up with a friend (obviously, i wouldn't with family.)

I started on my sisters, and had great fun then. It was definitely a fetish then too, I loved stocking feet for as long as I can remember. Opposer sounds like such a strong word to those who just aren't as hardwired in their tickling/sexuality than yourself. I haven't seen anyone so far object to it...or did I miss something? I have been gone a big chunk of the afternoon; maybe I should scan it over again.
