Have any forum members seen the new Quentin Tarantino flick, Inglourious Basterds? I went to see it with my friend today. While I'm aware that the movie got stellar reviews, I thought it was one of the worst movies I ever saw. The film was extremely violent, with many ridiculous scenes. I usually have a great attention span in any movie, but I spent this one alternating between fidgeting, trips to the men's room, and sleeping. My friend told me he had heard it was violent, and my mom, who was with us, told me that her impression was the movie was Quentin Taratino's fantasy of what he and most of the world would have liked to have done to the Nazis.

Anyhow, so that's my opinion. Any others?

I liked it, but when you go to see a Tarantino flick, you expect extreme violence and ridiculous scenes, don't you?

It's the same reason many people don't like Woody Allen. All that neurosis. But that's what he does. Werner Herzog does obsessed individuals. They all have a "groove".

Mom is on target. Eli Roth (Donnie Donnitz/The Bear Jew) says the exact same thing about his role.

i didn't think it was any more violent or messed up than Pulp Fiction, or Kill Bill...

and as for the whole attention span, it's true there's a lot of talking goin on, but not any more so than any other Tarantino film...

and i have to say it was miles above Deathproof.

all in all, thought it was pretty cool, but maybe just a bit overrated (only a bit).

just my opinion though.

I actually liked Pulp Fiction, and not because of Uma Thurman and all the barefoot scenes, lol. I just thought it was good. I didnt see Kill Bill.

My aunt and cousin raved about Inglorious Basterds,. and told me that when they went to see it, the whole theater stood up and clapped at the end. When the movie was over, I told my mom that from now on, I wont be listening to my aunt and cousin when it comes to opinions on movies.

Maybe it's just me, but I just didnt like it. I know as with any film, or anything else, there will be people who like it, and people who dont.

Generally speaking, anything involving Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, or Eli Roth is going to be ridiculous and campy.

You can think of it sort of like an adult version of Leslie Nielsen material.

In other words... it's not going to age well. Today, people will like it.

20 years from now, it will be forgettable crap in the bargain bin. The possible exceptions to this are Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs.

But yeah, I don't care much for camp either.

Tarantino's best since Pulp Fiction. Even the dialogue is tense.

I liked it a lot. And not just because of the long sole shot of Diane Kruger. But then I do like violent films. 😀

I saw it twice and I thought it was a good movie. Tarantino is wordy, but that's part of his style. I've heard a lot of complaints about the violence and I don't understand why this is such a big deal. I remember hearing about Mel Gibson supposedly calling Tarantino after Kill Bill came out to tell him that his movie was too violent, after having made Passion of the Christ, not to mention Braveheart. If the violence fits the story and isn't just brutality for the sake of it, like Hostel or some other torture porn, then for me it's fine. I don't find Tarantino to be tasteless in that regard. While not everyone's cup of tea, I wouldn't say it sticks out in a bad way, taking away from the quality of the movie.

Tarantino's tag is gore and darkness/noir set up. I found I.B. to be very enjoyable knowing what I was getting into and one of the main reasons Pulp Fiction was better was the sheer amount of star power it had (Samuel L. Jackson, John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Bruce Willis, etc.) where I.B. pretty much had Pitt, Kruger and Eli Roth: no where close to the same star power. Both were great and I liked I.B.

I've actually seen the movie today. I'm certainly not a fan of too much violence in movies, but really didn't find this one too extreme.
I overall liked it, with all the hype going on I kinda expected something a bit more outstanding though.
I loved the dialogues and the humor and I can only agree with the great critiques Christoph Waltz received for his fantastic perfomance.

I think Tarantino has a lot of idol worship towards him because his films seem to be the "in thing" when they're released.

This film was tamer compared to his other works and works of others. Other than the baseball bat beating, there were no real EXCESSIVE violent scenes. This film prob had the best dialogue he ever did too and respectively, its much tamer than most WW2 era shows\movies that depict real warfare

Best movie I seen all year.

There are reasons the reviews are good........because the movie IS GOOD.

The main badguy for the Germans stole the show.... and every scene Pitt was in was hilarious.
