Interracial couple denied marriage license

What the fuck? This isn't the 20th century anymore, people!!
Any kind of marriage discrimination just pisses me off. :sowrong: I can't believe crap like this still happens. It just proves that no matter how much we evolve, we'll always have that stupid, primitive side.

I don't know what's worse... that he did it, or that he didn't even think there was anything wrong with it.

Atrocious, that's just pathetic. WTF did he think he was doing? Pffft some people's logic baffles me

It's sad that this still happens. What's worse is that he doesn't think he did anything wrong. I am honestly surprise there hasn't been other cmplaints filed against him but I am sure they are going to be pouring in now. Pathetic that such hate still exists. Frankly to try and say it's in thought of their future children is a lame excuse. Those children have just as many options opened to them as anyone else. I hope they do put him under investigation and remove him from office.

I wonder if he was afraid the kid might grow up to become president?

Obama jokes aside though, the whole "I was concerned for the children" line is bogus. A) He referred interracial couples to another JP, so they were going to get married anyway. And B) they can have children whether they get married or not. I'm sure he's smart enough to realize that.

No, this was just about his own bigotry.

By the way, the governor of Louisiana is calling for this JP's removal for violations of state law. Now I can already see opponents of gay marriage saying "See? If you legalize it then the government will FORCE churches to marry gays!" So let's just nip that in the bud.

This man was an elected public official. His job under the law is to provide services to the entire public, not just the parts that he approves of. A priest or minister is not a public servant and does not have to abide by those rules. If gay marriage is legal, then a courthouse will have to provide marriage services to gays. A church will not.

Mr Bardwell is appalling. He should never be allowed to marry anyone again.

One of my cousins, a white, Jewish guy, is married to an African American lady, a medical doctor, and they have two lovely kids. To me, there is only one race, the human race. If couples are happy together, race, or religion, is of no consequence.

Hopefully, Bardwell will receive severe punishment for what he did.

Mitch

That still bugs me that he didn't think he did anything wrong!

There's a guy I know who suffers from this malady. He's got a thing about interracial relationships, and says that the children from such a relationship are the ones who suffer the most. I knew I'd have a problem in reasoning with him, when I realized that, given his sheltered, evangelical life, he knows not even the existence of Derek Jeter, or Halle Berry. I can shrug off the fact that he's just an old fool, but I also realize there are millions of Americans like him, who choose to not only know little of the world outside our borders, but much of the world within them...

As cultrally ignorant and borderline racist as that man sounds, he has a valid point. I raised a biracial and dated one; two different generations saying the same thing. Even Obama has mentioned struggling in his youth with being biracial.

The world around us has a tendency to pigeonhole people; the perspective from the biracials I know is that the whites don't consider them "white enough" nor the blacks "black enough" (whatever the hell that means). I have heard some of the craziest things from people including my ex who tells OUR daughter that she's 75% of him and 25% of me. I'm doing the biological math and that just plain old don't add up.

My daughter's a college senior and some of the most ridiculous racial statements have come from her peers. They've told her because of her complexion that there is no way she is black. I weep for the future of America if that mindset is what's graduating from our colleges:shock2:.

But it does force the biracial to develop a strong sense of self that I generally don't see in non-mixed races. You go through the jokes, jeers, and verbal ignorance and find out who you are in the world not allowing someone else to do it for you.

So the man actually does have a point, but refusing to marry interacial couples is not the answer............:rainbow:
