Interracial Marriage- Expression Of Thought

http://www.pbs.org/race/000_About/002_04-background-01-11.htm

There is not one gene, trait, or characteristic that distinguishes all members of one race from all members of another. We can map any number of traits and none would match our idea of race. This is because modern humans haven't been around long enough to evolve into different subspecies and we've always moved, mated, and mixed our genes. Beneath the skin, we are one of the most genetically similar of all species.

(Scientific explanation snipped)

Believing in race as biology allows us to overlook the social factors that contribute to inequality. Understanding that race is socially constructed is the first step in addressing those factors and giving everyone a fair chance in life.

Regardless of what is or is not technically correct, we should not be racist, and that's something we ALL agree on.

Love is in the eyes of the beholder, I think just to hate a person cause of there race or religion or that makes them different just shows that persons insercuritly's and lack of self respect so I don't have the time to waste on people like that life is too short.

You just took the words right out of my mind, AMK

I know you didn't refer to biracial children as "mutts" did you?

I hope you didn't mean to be so incredibly offensive, but if you did, shame on you!

My daughter is a beautiful young lady, not a mixed dog! :sowrong: :sowrong:

You really should consider how your words may affect others before you put them in print on a public website!

I actually refer to myself as a mutt when referring to ancestry. I have native american, irish, scottish, english, welch, french (although I don't claim it), greman, possibly slavic, etc. I would never refer to someone who is bi-"racial" a mutt. I guess this is one of those issues when you refer to yourself it is okay, but to others it is a big no-no.

I admit to reading NONE of the preceeding posts in this thread but will still offer my 7 cents.

kiss.

keep it simple stupid.

Love conquers all, right ???

Such romantic, simplistic bullshit.

There is such a thing as day-to-day reality.

i love interracial marriage...i think it makes the world a better place...just think of the world 100 years ago regarding mixing of races and look today...just shows how far we have come

I actually never thought to call a mixed person a mutt until a half black and hispanic girl called herself a mutt. Yeah I suppose I would'nt call someone I didnt know a mutt. But even so mixed denotes that someone isn't one race or the other anyways, would you perfer the word halfbreed. Or maybe black and hispanic. Would you fill it in as other if your doing a job application? I definately could see why some would be offended though. Suppose I should be more politically correct. So from know on I don't want to be called african or african american, because as I see it, I'm not from africa at all. Even if my ancestors were from africa I want no relation to them whatsoever. Wow did I ever get off track.

This isn't about being PC, it's about being respectful. If a person is willing to relate themselves to a mixed breed dog, have at it! If they don't realize that they're insulting themselves, I don't have time to educate someone that ignorant. Leave my daughter out of it is all I asked.

I equate the "mutt" term right there with black people using the "N" word, or women calling themselves bitches. I think it's repulsive at best to be so self-demeaning. Then again, it's a free country and a person is free to disrespect themselves anyway they want.

And no, I don't like the African-American term either. My ancestors were already here when the Mayflower hit. I tolerate it because I could get called worse, but I don't care for the term. It assumes that we're from Africa and that's not necessarily true. Just another way to lump us all in one category.

Although I may regret the answer, my curiosity consumes me and I can't help myself.

Please do elaborate on this one! :ermm:

Actually, all you had to do was read the first post by Mitchell, who started this thread. Then maybe your response would make more sense. Just my two.

In the thread by knogz, you state that marriages between people of different ages don't usually work out. Is that how you feel about interracial marriage? That's what you seem to be saying here. I'm just curious.

Yes, knogz. To whom are you referring (all or some of us?), and what do you mean you're nothing like these people? Or were you talking about TKpervert (whose post you followed) only? I'm curious about this as well.

I just started reading this thread, and figured I'd put in my two cents. Not about whether this guy is wrong (I agree with most everyone on that), but I have to ask: Mitchell, why do you keep such a small-minded, ignorant guy in your employ? I know you said something about him being "reliable", but you can't think he's the only reliable worker in existence - there must be more of them out there. IMO, the fact that he shows up every day shouldn't be weighed above his obvious character flaws; I'd let him go.

But that's just me.
