Iron Man, Iron Man, Does whatever an iron can.....

Yes...I admit it!!

Especially since that little dweeb Tom Cruise is NOT going to be Iron Man!

Nah, after Civil War, I've chosen to hate anything and everything Iron Man. He's a traitor, as far as I'm concerned. I hope the movie bombs.

Hell yes! And I hear there's a Fantastic 4 sequel coming out, too. And what's the dealio with Captain America???

As if that little sissy could pull off Tony Stark. Pierce Brosnan was my leading pick for the role, especially when he signed off on the Bond films. I'm curious to see what Robert Downey Jr. does with the role. He wouldn't have come to mind for it in a million years, but I'm intrigued.

You must be referring to something that happened in the comic books that I'm not geeked enough to know about, here?

My first introduction to Iron Man was around 1968 from the Krantz cartoon The Marvel Super Heroes. It was a half hour show that featured two 12-minute cartoons, each featuring one of the following: Captain America, Thor, The Hulk, Iron Man, and the Sub-Mariner. Many of the scenes in these cartoons were simply camera close-ups of actual comic books, many of which featured the legendary art of Jack Kirby.

The opening theme for the Iron Man cartoons went something like...
Tony Stark...makes you feel
He's the coolest cat with a heart of steel
An Iron Man with jets ablaze
He fights with his repulser rays!
Amazing Armor - Is Iron Man!
Amazing Power - Is I-ron Maan!!
I collected many comic books during the 80s, but Iron Man sort of disappointed me. By then Tony Stark was an alcoholic, and another guy named Jim Rhodes was donning the armor and doing the Iron Man thing. Iron man was present during the Secret Wars if I recall correctly, but I'm not sure if it was Tony Stark or Jim Rhodes. I've no idea what's gone on with the series since then.

Sure, I plan on seeing the movie, but I expect it'll be on a par with Daredevil or The Hulk.

Sorry, as far as superheroes/vigilantes go, I'm strictly a Batman, X-Men and Spawn fanboy 🙂

Cool, Drew. That series predates me, but you certainly piqued my curiousity by reciting those lyrics. When I first read them, it seemed more than a bit reminiscent of the words to the Spider Man theme (it almost fits if you sing it). But I instantly found the theme on youtube...

Sounds kind of like a 50s ad jingle- nice!

I wouldn't have thought of Downey either, but he's perfect for the role (Tony Stark's an alcoholic pill popper for crying out loud).

That's next. 2009 from what I've heard.

Long story short: the US government passed a law requiring all super-powered individuals to register their identities and powers with a federal database, and become federal agents, if they didn't do so, they'd be considered criminals. The super hero community fell into pro and anti registration camps led by Iron Man and Captain America respectively, the two sides had a massive battle in Manhattan, the anti-side almost won, Cap ultimately realized that most of the American people supported registration, called off his army, took off his mask and surrendered as Steve Rogers and not the symbol. While he was being transported to SHIELD custody, he was assasinated, whether Steve'll be resurrected or someone else will put on the outfit, I have no clue. Currently, Iron Man's the new director of SHIELD (Fury's was on the anti-side, nobody knows where he currently is), and is establishing government sponsored super hero teams in all 50 states, the rest of the anti crowd are outlaws. Now, the Hulk's about to come back to earth after being exiled, and some of the anti-crowd are probably crazy enough to join with him.

I think that's basically it.

I just hope they keep true to the char of his alcoholic playboy nature

Robert Downey Jr. Will make an excellent Tony Stark.....

Cant wait for this one!...

Da dude took out Captain america and he gets a movie deal?! Ah hell no that aint right!

The Hulk is in exile? :wow: I thought "Mean Green" could do whatever he wants, whenever he wanted to......

Robert Downey Jr is an interesting pick.....the keys to a great super hero movie are a good lead actor, a great storyline and plot, and some awesome ass villans!....(I thought Alfred Molina as "Doctor Octopus" in the Spidey sequel was a kick ass villan, as was my favorite, Jack Nicholson as the "Joker" in the first "Batman".....

I thought "Spawn", the "Hulk" and "Daredevil" all could have been much better, so it's hit and miss......

Sigh...i yearn for the days of John Wayne,Jimmy Stewart Henry Fonda etc.😛

Dude, most cool find! I haven't heard that theme in almost 40 years! Looks like I misrepresented some of the lyrics, but I'm surprised I got that much right. lol.

Many thanks for the blast from the past!

Edit:

Hey Mikey, I found the theme for The Hulk and The Mighty Thor, but I couldn't find Captain America or The Sub-Mariner.

well, i know that i'm looking forward to Iron Man. Downey has had his ups and downs in the past, and i think his tarnished history and Stark's have a lot in common. i mean, how good can a character with such demons be if the actor hasn't had any himself?

i am also excited about the second Batman flick, and some of the other projects coming up in the next few years. FF2...i'm a little scared...but it has the Surfer, so it can't be all bad.

anywho...the first pic i threw in to my post if a funny little item. the second pic is Heath Ledger in his new role.

I'm a big comic book fan but I've never been a huge fan of ironman but I might see the movie. I'm far more excited about the next Batman and Hulk movies next year I get a thrill everytime the Hulk smashes the shit out of everything and crushes even the toughest marvel characters.

Actually, you were awfully close with those lyrics. It's pretty impressive. It's a really catchy theme, so it's probably a good example of how much more memorable words are with music attached to them.

It's easy to take the internet, and the flow of information, for granted. But I couldn't help but think how amazing it is, after I read the lyrics you posted, to be able to dig up a theme from 40 years ago almost instantaneously. It's kind of ridiculous.

Thor's theme is not bad. Each of the themes has something to recommend them, although Iron Man is my personal favorite. It's interesting how they chose to go with 50s-style theme songs almost across the board (Sub-Mariner might be the exception).

Here is the Sub-Mariner theme:

Dark Knight I absolutely can't wait for. Rise of the Silver Surfer has got me a bit leery as well, but after that first one, there's really nowhere to go but up.

As for Iron Man, well, Marvel better damn well hope it's a smash, they could very well lose the film rights to the character if it isn't.

i`m excited!! i also look forward to seeing Robert Downey Jr. playing Tony,he is one of the best actors out there IMO

Lemmee get this staight.....

The title of this thread means that Iron Man gets the wrinkles out of your garments and makes the creases straight and sharp?

Iron Man

I just hope they play some Black Sabbath at some point, he he.
