I'm always wondering why some people can laugh at the slightest touch, and others (like me...) have no reaction at all? I don't mean to start a scientific thread here, but what separates the ticklish people from those who are not? Does the body have to be "alive" inside?
 
...No, being ticklish is a sense of touch. As for why, the answer is obvious.

According to stephen fry and QI there are between 9 - 15 different senses including the well known ones so i dont know what to believe anymore haha .

Some people intensely dislike nails on a chalkboard, or the squeak a ballon makes when you rub it; and some, it doesn't bother. Some people can't stand the feel of fuzz on a peach.

While I've known many more people who were, I've known quite a few of people who just weren't ticklish, or didn't find the sensation pleasurable at all.

Everybody's different. No biggie. (Well, it is to many people here, but you get my meaning)

I think you're kind of beating yourself up about it. And you shouldn't.
 
There are a variety of theories regarding sensation and why one person will react to a sensation when another won't. But it is a lot like why some people like broccoli while others detest it. They just do. And that is all there is to it.

Just because you are not ticklish does not mean there is something wrong with you. No, there is nothing you can do to make yourself ticklish. No, there is no defect that causes you to not be ticklish.

There is, however a harmful aspect to this. It is your worry and obsession about not being ticklish. It causes stress with in the body, which will harm your senses. I understand why you ask these questions, but honestly, you are only going to get peoples opinions and not all of them may be educated ones. If you are truly concerned in a medical sense, then talk with a professional in the medical field, though they are likely to tell you the same thing. In any case, stop stressing.

Not being ticklish is just fine. My Love is not ticklish as are many other people and many of them still find a way to thoroughly enjoy tickling with others as 'lers. If your concerned because you want to 'lee, then you may have need to explore sensation play as a bottom instead of attempting to 'lee in a tickling scene. There are many other wonderful sensations to discover in light bondage and sensual BDSM. Tickling is just one aspect.

Thanks for the great response.
I don't stress over it 24/7, but sometimes it gets me really down especially when I'm pretty sure I was ticklish when I was younger.
I wish there was a "cure" for it. Like a pill or something....or surgery (haha, wouldn't that be something?? lol)

You are welcome. I tend to overly worry sometimes for people 😀

Yes... I agree it would be great if there were a topical cream that could be applied to heighten nerve response, but I think I would still pass on using it. Once you start messing with nerve receptors there is such high risk of permanent damage. It does suck that our bodies can change like that in some ways. Sometimes the paths our bodies take are beyond our control... Best wishes to you and yours...

Nah, being ticklish is definitely a sense of touch. Like, I have a sensory disorder that makes me feel everything more strongly, and as a result, I'm extremely ticklish.

But if you're not ticklish, nothing's wrong with you. You're just not as sensitive to physical touch.
 
Wait, wait! You could actually be right cause I just read that some people who've suffered spinal injuries and are otherwise numb can sometimes still be ticklish. Weird..
 
If you're not ticklish, you have no soul.

Anyways, you really shouldn't worry about it so much. Some have it, some don't. And the fact that you obsess about why you aren't as much as you do, might be some sort of reasoning as to maybe you just needing to learn to relax.

I have theorized over this from time to time...and have come to the conclusion there are some metaphysical aspects to being ticklish. Evidence to support this is of course based on my own experiences as a 'lee and is entirely ancedotal.

I have tried this before...when i get in a certain mood...if a 'ler thinks tickling "thoughts" at me i will get squirmy...like i can feel it physically. or sometimes in the middle of a session...when im all hyped up, i can be tickled all over without even being touched. Like if the 'ler used their fingers to just play in my energy field...

Granted situations like these could just be psychosematic reactions that i generate on my own based on anticipation. Im not ruling anything out.

I suspect that tickling has some degree of mysticism attached to it though. Many times in the past i have been tickled to the point of hallucination, when i have wild flashes of color or images run through my mind. These mental images are reminescent of a trip using a psychadellic drug like lsd. This happens quite frequently when im tickled for a prolonged amount of time; and while it may be the result of my brain simply delighting in the nervous stimulation...it could also be a result of the psychic relationship between 'ler and 'lee.

i am of the school of thought that firmly believes in mind over matter. Meaning that im sure you can train your body to be ticklish. There is video evidence showing monks and yogis who can enter into a meditative trance and pierce their skin with nails...and bleeding no blood or leaving any marks of any sort.

Perhaps with the proper mental discipline you can train your nervous system to react to touches and make yourself ticklish.

Sensory psychology is all about thresholds. So where is that line between being ticklish and non ticklish? I believe that's a matter of perception. To one person it may be a tickle and to someone else it's simply a caress.

Is it a sixth sense though? I believe that it is after a fashion. However i know it's not exclusive, and im sure you could develop it...just like any other sense.
 
I dunno, I mean you take the 5 senses; touch, see, sour, hair and spleen...I think the 6th people refer to is like in that movie where Macaulay Culkin and Bruce Willis see dead people. You know, Extra Sensual Prescription.

You wish you were ticklish? If you don't know what a tickle feels like how do you even know you'd like it? Maybe you'd rue the day you became ticklish, whatever rueing is. Remember that if you took a survey of 100 ticklish people my guess would be at least 75 of them (which is almost 60 percent) don't like to be tickled, at all.

Others claim that everyone is ticklish somewhere. Maybe your lers just haven't found the right spot or technique. If you were a girl and would pay for my plane ticket there and back, and food and lodging, and some spending money while I was wherever you are, I would volunteer my services. Unfortunately thats not the cards we were dealt, as little Webster always used to say. Feel free to send me money anyway however.

There are actually a lot more senses. The idea of only 5 senses is a fallacy. Somehow, along the way, it got reduced to 5. Actually, the others senses we possess are:

Balance, Temperature, Kinesthetic, Pain (The tickle nerve is different), Movement

There are also internal senses which is related to the involuntary processes of the body.
