Because it is hard to keep up and know where the puck is on TV. The cameras can't always keep up with the puck. You really have to rely on your play by play announcer. Fortunately there are some really good ones in the New York area such as Sam Rosen ( though I hate the Rangers, Sam is one of the best ) , Howie Rose ( who is the Islanders great announcer ) and Mike Emrick ( who is the great voice of the New Jersey Devils and right now NBC as well ). Plus there are alot of people who really do not know the rules of the game. When I started watching hockey, I didn't understand off-sides. I didn't understand alot of the rules. But as I grew older, I started to understand the game. It is a fast-paced game. What people have to try to do is slow the game down in their heads to understand the rules. Like people say baseball is boring. It is because they don't understand the game. You notice people say things like " I don't like hockey ". You ask why and they really don't know why. It is because they don't take the time to understand the game.
