Is it possible to sudden;y lose ticklishness?

Just wondering if someone could be ticklish and suddenly not be ticklish the next day. The strangest thing happened to me yesterday. I was apparently not ticklish for a minute or two... my g/f and I have frequent tickle fights, so I was playing with her when I suddenly noticed that it didn't tickle anymore... should I be shipped to Happy Valley Mental Hospital?

If a ticklish person was hypnotized to be no longer ticklish then it could be lost over night. Realistically, I believe it happens to some people over years. For some it has to do comfort with other people and others it is lack of sensitivity in the ticklish places. A good example is Melissa Joan Hart and her grandmother.

I think you can hold off on the trip to the happy valley. Losing ones ticklishness can be the result of a lot of things. One of them is predictability, you might be getting used to her methods. Your brain isn't surprised by the stimuli anymore. If she caught you off-guard or did something you hadn't expected you might find your ticklishness returned.

Just my two cents, figured I'd throw out a guess.

Mind over ticklish

The power of the mind is an awesome thing. In many cases it usually overrules the body. I had been ticklish my whole life until one incident when my tickler deliberately caused me pain. It was such a shock to my system that my brain shut my body down to tickling for many years.

Thank the gods it finally came back. 😀

Thanks guys for all your responses. Another question I have is the possibility of losing ticklishness altogether suddenly... is this possible? I always thought that people were born ticklish or not ticklish, but I'm not sure...
