My female friends always offer me advice which I take and it works out. Now from a guy's perspective, I love your pic in your sig and you should do that smile instead of the face that you make in most of your album pics. Just giving some friendly male advice.

1. Saying "you should take more pictures like the one in your sig" isn't an excessive use of the word "like" so you're essentially attempting to mimick something I never did. I understand where you were going with it but the usage of the word "like" in my post was proper English. It wasn't the filler use of the word "like".

2. Don't be a bitch. Giving Mammers advice isn't meant to be offensive and shouldn't be taken as such. Hell, I love it when girls offer me advice and I take it openly as long as it's constructive criticism and not just someone trying to insult me.

And no, there's no need for "taking cover." Assuming no one here is a minor, it'd be pretty immature if someone's petty little obnoxious comments blew up into a board war. Of course some people never grow up, but I think a clearcut majority of us are mature enough to evade the need for "taking cover" here.

1. Deconstruct your sentence and count the number of times you said "like", then do the same to mine. You'll notice a resemblance. 🙂

2. Don't be an asshole. Mammers clearly didn't appreciate the advice and it was rude of you to give said "advice" without invitation. No one, Mammers included, needs to know what you think looks good and what doesn't. You may "love it" when people tell you that your face doesn't look as good in this picture as it does in that picture, but not everyone does, and quite frankly, it was rude of you to offer your opinion.

1. I used the word "like" twice and you used it twice as well. The difference is that my usage was proper English while yours was filler in the same way people sometimes say "umm." Your attempt to mimic me failed.

Here's my original sentence: Hey mammers you should take more pics of yourself like the one in your sig rather than like the ones in your album. The sig one is much cuter.

Obviously you didn't read it very carefully since you're assuming I used the word "like" in a similar manner as yourself. Perhaps I can chop the sentence down for you. What I said could be said like this: "take more pics like the one in your sig instead of ones like those in your album." Now compare that to my previous sentence and you'll see if you cut out either "like", the sentence doesn't deliver its intended meaning. I'm not trying to say "don't take the pics you already took in your album." Instead, I'm saying "don't take pics LIKE the ones you already took in your album." Those 2 sentences have completely different meanings and the word "like" was necessary in both of my usages.

Well...now that I finished teaching English to someone who I assume isn't a minor and is evidently from the US, we'll move onto point #2.

2. No where in my posts could anyone with a sane mind deduce I was being an asshole or even unintentionally being one. You say Mammers clearly didn't appreciate the advice. Well that was unclear to me. Her response was "Wait ....... Whattttt? LOL". That to me suggests she wanted elaboration and was unsure what exactly I was saying. So I elaborated that it was just friendly advice and wasn't meant to be insulting and that my female friends give me advice all the time which I take so I figured I'd give some to her.

You also say it's rude to give advice without invitation. That's your opinion and I can't say it's correct or incorrect. Some people appreciate it some don't. Mammers was polite and if she didn't appreciate it she certainly politely hid that unappreciation.

You also say no one needs to know what my opinion is. While that's true, this is a message board and not one single post on this entire forum's history was "needed." Thus, I brush away that point as being not very well thought out. And I already addressed the rest of your points earlier.
