Is tickling being seen differently?

I could be wrong about this, but it seems like within the last few years, tickling doesn't seem to occur in cartoons and tv in general as frequently as it used to. I also noticed that when it does happen, it's usually a male being tickled. One thing I also found interesting was when I posted that ghostbuster's pic I did recently. Here's the part from wikipedia talking about a scene from the cartoon Extreme Ghostbusters:

"At the end of the episode "Killjoys", the creature picks up Garrett and Kylie in its tentacles, and attempts to tickle them. A shot was cut from circulation, involving the creature taking Kylie's boots off and tickling her bare feet."

Now I found that very interesting. Now there could be many reasons why they could have cut this from circulation(assuming it's even true in the first place), and I'm wondering why they would alter it. Did they feel it wasn't suitable for children to see? I'm thinking people are changing their views on tickling and maybe even seeing it as almost a sexual thing. Maybe it can be perceived as something different when it's a girl being tickled as opposed to if it was a guy. Maybe they're onto us? 😵

But as I said, maybe it's just me. What are you guy's thoughts on it?

I know what you mean. It's almost like it's becoming more rare than before. But I if I have to make the conclusion, I think it's because it becoming more of an adult stuff than kids stuff. However, I could be wrong.

Tickling is just one of the changes that have happened in cartoons over the years. As the country becomes more discrete, so to do the cartoons. We live in a time where we're trying not to offend anyone, so we create material that is less likely to, while removing things that may no longer be acceptable by the watchdogs of today.

it seems like it's being more drawn into a standard turn-on in relationships and a less publicly acceptable form of behavior.....these days i'll see bf/gf relationships with tickling, not just sibling tickling (like there used to be)

I think that all of this has to do with the actions of fetishists with uncontrollable urges, such as Eric Wier and others, who have been making a bad name for you all. Just my opinion.

Well, at least I'm not the only one noticing this. I think it also has to do with those damn mothers that have nothing better to do than complain about what their kids watch on TV.

Btw, who is this Eric Wier guy?

?

Its not that they don't have something better to do, or that they have mountains of available time (alot of mothers and fathers don't, but they make room for issues that mean something to them), alot of them are just trying to be supermoms to the extreme who want to create superfamilies, and thats whats annoying because the ones that are excessive are trying to be/make things perfect and set standards that the average family is going to find excessive. In addition to looking like/becoming busybodies, this caliber of supermom (or dad) trys to control things within in the family beyond their control, and they get irritated and restless when they cannot. This is either because they're perfectionists, control freaks, they're extremely paranoid and distrustful of their own family, or something else is going on (usually emotionally). This leads them to look for answers outside the home, and thats when it gets other people involved.

Their hearts are in the right place, but they're often too overbearing, shrewd, selfish, and stubborn for their own good or anyone else's. They want to change the world the way they're changing the home, and its just not going to work or be acceptable for every family. Their problems are not everyone's problems, but there are enough of them to make a difference. In a way, I admire that (making a stand on principles), even though I think some of what they try and achieve is misguided and foolish.

Ya I notice it too. But I also notice that more and more on these teeny-bopper reality type shoes that there is almost always some tickling or foot-fetish related activities involved. So I also think that tickling has become more sexual.

I must admit that I am disappointed by how tickling has become so sexualized. It's hard to find video where the tickler and ticklee are fully clothed. There should be more tickling sites that are not sexualized.

worst. pun. EVER.

i too wonder who this eric wier is
Whoops. Sorry, I was rereading Jeffery Deaver's The Vanished Man
I meant this other man, named Weir, or Wier, which was his last name. He was caught in new york because he was licking women's feet? Then there is another man in the same city, who was taking women's shoes. Then in florida there is a man who was tickling a teenage girl's bare soles under a movie seat. (Thiough in my opinion, that is pretty cool, stil...) Lastly, there is a man in florida also, who is running into elderly women's houses and tickling their feet. This is sad, and it is also bestowing upon our fair delight, a very bad name.

By the way, the character in The Vanished Man, is named Erick Weir.

Yeah, I've noticed, and spoken on this before. First of all, like others have said, tickling has become more sexualized in the last 10 or so years it seems. This is likely because of recent events that make it look that way, especially when it comes to females.

Which brings up my next point; you said it also is usually a male being tickled when it does happen. As far as I've ever seen, it's ALWAYS been that way. I know because that likely plays a part in why I'm so biased towards female tickling. I'm not sure if guys being tickled is funny because it portrays a "big strong man reduced to a helpless fit" to quote a certain someone (she should know who she is), or what. I guess when it comes to females though, tickling's seen to be worse somehow (more sexual? Yeah, THAT makes alot of sense. <_<).

So yeah, as for the scene for example, I would think maybe they didn't think it was suitable for a female to be tickled as it would have been for a guy to be, which supports that it's perceived differently depending on whether the lee is male or female. Either way, I can't help but find it really annoying.

Seems to me one of the biggest things that happened recently was the Howard Stern show and about a year and a half of heavy promotion & use of his tickle chair.

I think the effect was to make tickling seem more mainstream.

For some unknown reason, though, Howard has largely stopped using the tickle chair.

Well, BDSM used to be very taboo, but now you'll see references and jokes about it on TV all the time. It's practically mainstream now unless you take it to extremes. Maybe in 10 or so years tickling will be more accepted as a common sexual practice (considering it is a pretty common sexual practice).

I've read a children's book called Fourth Grade Rats that had feet tickling in it. 🙂
