I have read that really shy people tend to open up online because there is no true ''eye contact'' when conversing via chatrooms, forums , etc.

well i guess i can sort of attest to this.. i wouldnt say im shy anymore (used to be REALLY shy as a kid), but by nature im just a really calm laid back kind of guy.. it takes a lot to get a rise out of me, and i pretty much just keep to myself.. i dont not talk to people, but im not typically the conversation starter.. but as far as personality? no difference.. the way i type is the way i would talk if i was actually talking to you.. i guess thats why sometimes the things i say dont make much sense haha
 
Unfortunately, for me, my answer is no. I can be as abraisive a prick in real life as I can be here. 😀
 
what you see online is who i am offline...this is who i am..i see no reason to be anything but who i am..take me or leave me..anyone who has either met me or talked to me on the phone can attest to the fact that what you see here is who i am always..sometimes too impulsive, sometimes doing before thinking..not perfect by a long shot..

I am usually a bit shy among people I don't know very well. A soon as I feel comfortable around someone though I am revealing my outgoing, fun-loving, bubbly nature. I have realized that I found it even easier to open up to people on this forum than I do in RL. One reason certainly being the anonymity of being online, but I think also knowing that people here share some of the same desires, dreams and likes I do helps to open up quicker.
So I'd actually say, somehow part of my "online personality" is even more true to my nature than my "RL personality" sometimes is. :upsidedow
 
Seeing as how I can't stand phonies, it would be extremely hypocritical of me to fake my personality online or offline now wouldn't it?

I'm the same way here that I am outside of the internet; I'm just myself, no more no less.

It is true that more introverted types open up more on the internet since they can remain fairly ambiguous...but I would think they still retain their own persona instead of creating another new one. Of course I can't speak for everyone...just my two coppers 🙂
 
I'm just as hyper, loud, bouncy, obnoxious, playful, boisterous, silly and outspoken in person as I am on the forum. You can ask any of the 50+ folks from here I've met in person. 😀
 
I can see about people being more open in an online setting then a real-life setting, but that's just a case of confidence. The values and humour I bring online are the same values and humour I use in real-life. I'm just better able to evoke such values and humour online.

I think that people are a little more open and honest on the internet. Some people are a lot different because they can hide behind a computer, others can munipulate how they want to be seen or noticed or the amount of attention they get. Personally, I am pretty head on online how I am in real life. In real life I might actually be more goofy. Online I am a little more talkative for the simple fact that I can see what I say before it's "sent" and modify it just perfectly before everyone else sees it. But all in all, I think I am pretty much the same person in real life most people here see me as.
 
Im a tad more shy in person. other than that, im the same liberalism hating, flatulence loving maniac that youve grown to love! :veryhappy
 
I think everyone acts differently in different situations. On the interntet, at work, in a crisis, trying to pick up a perspective date, in private, etc. Who's to say what's the real you? Is the way you are with loved ones any less you than the you that handles a crisis situation? Who is the real person Bruce Wayne or Batman? See my point? :wavingguy

Wow..this is an interesting thread..

See...I think this is a more difficult medium to be myself thru. (mmmmmmmmmm...is that a good sentence?) I guess I see this as pretty one dimensional. I respond to some of the threads that I find I can't resist...but if I were with some of you....I would participate more fully...like laughter and affection..and warmth and facial expression...My sense of humor, for one, would be more apparent. I'm sure no one knows what my personality is really like. I wouldn't say that am not myself....but I can't really be myself here either...clear as mud eh? :shake:

So, that was the long answer. The short one is yes, I believe I am myself here...I'm just not sure anyone can really "see" me. :upsidedow
 
I'm basically the same here as I am in the 'real world'. Although, I think those who are shy out in real life are basically able to come here and be who they see themselves as but can't articulate, it's not fronting at all.

I'm a little bit different in person than on line, but not much. On line, you have time to think about how to respond, the best way to word your response; you can edit things you've already said, or even take them back altogether. In the real world, one can't do any of those things, so I'm naturally a little more guarded about what comes out of me.

Yes but Batman doesnt donate a fortune to charities or help people from a corporate standpoint. So in a way Bruce Wayne is a hero too. And perhaps that mourning defines Bruce Wayne not left him for dead. :wow:

Yup! Very true. The same goes for me. To me there is no sense in being anything but the person I am whether face to face, on the phone, or on line.
 
I`m the same person, online or real life. Thank God I talk better than I type. :ermm:
 
I'm pretty much who I am offline as online, but I know a lot of people who have 'online personas' and soforth. I don't understand them. I honestly don't. It only serves as a barrier fi you ever DO meet the people on these forums in real life.

But hey, what do I know?
