There was a TV show on ABC tonight which featured a female novelist who presented her proof that she feels reveals the true identity of Jack The Ripper. The leading Ripper suspects had always been one of the Crown Princes, as well as the royal physician. But this woman points the finger at a painter who some 20 years after the murders produced some very strange artwork closey resembling the Ripper's victims. There are other pieces of info which she brought into light as well. The article I'm linking you to only covers the general info, but the TV show was very detailed and this woman makes a convincing argument.

I hope this link works

Walter Sickert was also discussed extensively as a suspect in Stephen Knight's book Jack the Ripper: The Final Solution, although Knight said the real murderer was royal physician Sir William Gull and Sickert was only an accomplice. (As you might guess, this was the book that inspired Alan Moore to write From Hell).

Shem-- I've never seen "From Hell" but am familiar with the movie. Does the movie cover Sickert? I'll have to rent the DVD.

Always been a fascinating topic, this lurid mystery. I remember reading a very convincing article back in 1993 that made the case it was Gull. The story the writer presented was that he would follow in the wake of the young princes' *****-runs, and he would "destroy" the "evidence." Covering up scandal.

WallStreet, I saw this show was going to be on, and I was bummed I missed it. Didn't know where or when.

As far as that painter goes, I wouldn't be surprised to hear of a secret society of scandal-cover-uppers.

The notion that the Ripper was attached to Royalty would explain why it's "the greatest unsolved mystery."

I've been meaning to see From Hell since it came out, but still haven't yet. However, have any of you seen my favorite movie of all-time... Time After Time? It's dated, but in a good way.

Boom the Tickler

HG Wells says: "My name is HG Wells. I came here in a time machine of my own construction. I'm persuing Jack the Ripper."
Police detective says: "First you were Sherlock Holmes. Now your HG Wells."

Excellent quote. For those who don't know, Jack the Ripper escapes to 1979, and H.G. pursues him. A very scary David Warner and a very likable (for a change) Malcolm McDowell.

How 'bout when Jack himself says, "Go home, Herbert. The future isn't what you thought. It's what I am... I belong here completely and utterly."

And, later, H.G. has the great speech, "World War this, World War that! Oh, we're obviously killing each other much more efficiently, but we're still killing. I wouldn't buy a revolver now if I could. The first man to raise a fist is the first to run out of ideas."

No tickling, unfortunately, but it IS the movie other time travel fims have bowed to. In Back to the Future, for instance, they use the same date from Time After Time. Etc, etc.

- Boomtow-- no!
- Holmes. Sherlock Holmes.

Damn, and I just found out that Maggie shot Mr. Burns...🙄

Fine. But, who REALLY shot JR? Inquiring minds want to know!

Why, I believe it was Kirsten.

And that Who Shot Mr. Burns episode had a great Twin Peaks scene. "This suit burns better."

Venray -- No, Sickert didn't appear in the From Hell movie. I don't recall at the moment if he's in Moore and Campbell's comic.
