God I hurt so good....I'm legally deaf, my neck hurts from headbanging and I'm a bit bruised from the moshpit but god damn if it isn't a good way to release some aggression. Ya see, my second cousin owns a rather popular (and very large) bar here on Long Island that plays host to some really good concerts. Heres a rundown of tonights lineup:

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Divine Heresy: Nothing really worth mentioning here. Your standard easily forgettable, cookie-cutter opening act. Kind of a bad combination of Pantera and Crowbar minus the talent.

Three Inches of Blood: Now these guys FRIGGIN ROCKED, hailing from Canada and looking like they just walked out of a Hells Angels convention (heavy set, middle aged guys with thick beards, long hair and dressed like bikers). If you like good old school metal like Iron Maiden or old Metallica you'll love these guys.

HEADLINERS-

Shadows Fall: Speed metal, plain and simple, with a good ballad tossed in for good measure. The most noticeable thing is the lead singer...he has dread-locked hair that reaches down to his ankles! Overall a pretty awesome group.

STATIC-X: Okay...now I need to run down this group for people who have never heard of them. Lead singer Wayne Static is a human bobble-head with hair that defies all conventional laws of physics. We're talking like Vegeta from Dragon Ball here people. Plus he had a voice (both speaking and singing) like he gargled with battery acid (but in a good way!). Bassist Tony Campos looks like wrestler Bam-Bam Biggalo sans head tattoo and is the sweatiest man I have ever seen. He was head banging and literally watering the audience (yours truly included, ew). Guitarist Koichi Fukuda is just a sexy little bishy japanese piece of man meat that I'd like to....um...moving right along...LOL. And drummer Nick Oshiro is like the human version of Animal from the Muppet Show; I've never seen arms flail about like this, as if independent from the rest of his body. Overall they kick ass, very Industrial Metal with a lot of club and techno elements thrown in.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Now here's where it gets interesting. After the show I tracked down my cousin to thank him for getting me and my two friends in free of charge. He greets me and hands me three slips of paper. I go "Whats this". He replies "I dunno, some kind of backstage VIP passes or something...". We nearabout shit ourselves right there. We went backstage (actually it was outside by the tour buses) and waited for band members to appear. First some staff members who were near us during the show (we were pressed against the railing right in front of the stage) commented "Weren't you the guys singing Journey earlier". And indeed, earlier when they were playing music between bands they started playing "Small Town Girl" by Journey so we started singing along, drunken karaoke style. YOU CANNOT RESIST THE ALLURE OF JOURNEY!!! NO MATTER HOW METAL YOU MAY BE!!!

My friend Pat was looking for the lead singer from Three Inches of Blood, Jamie Hooper (as he's been a huge fan for years) and we finally spotted him, standing off to the side on the phone. We tried to get his attention but he seemed to almost run from us and go through a closed door. Moments later the lead guitarist, Shane Clark came out who had been on stage right in front of us during their set. He actually commented to us "Hey you're those guys from the front row, you guys rocked!". WE WERE FLOORED! HE SAID WE ROCKED?!?! In my deliriously tired state I wanted to ask him if small woodland creatures lived in his beard but I controlled myself...After a rather lengthy conversation we learned that their lead singer is actually very shy and dislikes socializing...odd. In the end we managed to get a picture with him on Pats cell phone, met some other random band members from throughout the night (But no Koichi Fukuda, dammit! :sigh: ) walked to a local diner to get some grubbage and I just got home a little while ago....my ears are still ringing...

THAT IS SO @#$%ING METAL!

Hey Cheshire did you go to Wacken by any chance?

Because it sounds like you'd love it! 😀

And if you didn't........ You Should Dammit!

Infact EVERYONE should go to Wacken next year! EVERYBODY!

I'm a big fan of Static-X. I'm glad you like them. I've never met somebody in person who does haha. Their new album kicks ass, but their second album is still my favorite. I'm glad the original Japanese guitarist is back with the band, and his solos are tight.

Aye, a bittersweet feeling indeed if I may say so. I can wish all I want that they'll come to Ottawa, but nooooooo... if they even remotely come to Canada they'll go to Montreal and/or Toronto, skipping us entirely. I hate some big name bands...

that being said though, Static-X kicks ass and I'd definitely go to either to see them in concert.
