OK, so I'm watching the Oprah show today and she's giving out these $100K awards to people who have done some extraordinary work with children etc.

This one woman started a summer camp for homeless children. It's called CAMP HARMONY. After many years, they said the kids often come to camp with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. One of the things they try to do is outfit each kid in the needed clothing, give them toiletries, etc. Shampoo with conditioner is an extravagance to these children. Can you imagine? I have a hard time doling out sympathy to adults who are in dire circumstances at times...frustration, ya know?....but children can't help it!

SO ANYWAY....Lands End heard about this camp and they have donated to each camp attendee enough clothing for a FULL YEAR for FREE! backpacks, sleeping bags, towels, shoes, jackets, pants, shirts...all of it!

IS THAT COOL OR WHAT???? So,next time you're shopping....remember Lands End. Nice to support the folks who do good things. 🙂

That's wonderful!!!

I always love hearing stories like this....when someone (or in this case, a company) does something special for those in need. Especially when the ones benefitting are children and/or animals...who have no choice or control about the situation they have been placed in. It gives you a warm tingly feeling and, if only temporarily, makes the world seem like a much better place 🙂

Mimi: Don't forget that Lands End is based in our home state. (Although they are being purchased by Sears). It's just a sample of the swell people who reside here...

Wisconsin is the land of the cheeseheads?😕

Yes BigJim. People who live in Wisconsin are called "Cheeseheads". For two main reasons. One, Wisconsin is the main dairy state in the U.S., and the largest distributor of cheese in the nation (also the place to go for the best cheese curds and string cheese in the world...lol). Secondly, if you ever watch the Green Bay Packers play a home game (American football team, based in Wisconsin), nearly every fan in the stands has a big triangular cheese wedge hat/head gear on. I'll probably call on Venray here to post a picture of a cheesehead hat as a demonstration, so that you understand fully...LOL.

That is why Wisconsinites are known as cheeseheads 😀 😀 😀

Thank you for the explanation Meemster. 😀 The confusion arose because to an English Gerntleman such as myself

a cheesehead is someone from Holland or the Netherlands. So called because of their propensity for making dairy products. Suprised eh?

By the way, before that offends you Meem, that "I'm with Stupid" gif, refers to me, not you. I didn't know the arrow on the sign would be pointing at your name until I posted it. 😀

I never knew what a "cheesehead" was until our local boy, Bret Favre went to the great white north to play football. We didn't really like him until he was famous....he's not a very nice man....but for some reason, the area adopted the funky cheese hats and we all got an education. LMAO

Behold the power of cheese??? 😛

Joby,

I agree that Favre was a bit immature before he came up to the "frozen tundra" of Wisconsin. Even after he got here, his outings with his buddy Mark Chmura were legendary around these parts. However, he seems to have settled down now that he has become a family man...and all of us Packer fans can only hope he continues down the straight and narrow path to the Super Bowl. By the way, I had no idea my location of "Land of the Cheeseheads" would draw such a sizeable response. Maybe all of the attendees of Mimi's September gathering should chip in to buy one for BigJim to take home to England.

I think we all hope that the trouble makers will "grow out of it." Bret comes from a messed up family tree that is well known in these parts as folks to avoid. He's apparently done a btter job than most of escaping his adolescent environment. I've seen his behavior in the last year, and I wasn't impressed. Could be the night I saw him cuss out a cocktail wairtress at a casino was just a bad night for him. I give anyone the benefit of the doubt. If nothing else....the man can play some football, no?
