Laptop Question.

In the first two days with my laptop, I've just let the computer go into screensaver, and I push the power button to turn it back on.

Should I also close my computer if I'm not online, like fold the screen down, or doesnt it matter if it goes into screensaver? I have it plugged in, so its not running on battery.

Any advice would be appreciated, as I've never used a laptop before until Thursday. Thanks.

It depends on the make and model. Personally, I'd treat it as you would a desktop machine.

Oh, and beware of "free" wi-fi networks. Malicious hackers with machines which act like legit wi-fi gateways (especially in places with pay-per-use wi-fi) launch what are called "man-in-the-middle" attacks to steal passwords, credit card data, the usual shit. IOW, anything you type or download goes through the hacker's machine before it enters or leaves yours. (I understand such attacks can occur with mobile devices too).

If your computer/laptop is on screen saver, the display backlight is still on. The best way would be disabling the screensaver and letting the computer turn the screen off (including the backlight). Most notebooks turn the backlight off if they are closed - so with enabled screensaver closing the notebook would be the best option.

To be safe,I would not close the laptop if the power is still on.But then I am paranoid. I carry my laptop with me in my big rig. I always totally turn it off before I close it up.
