Bo Sox sign John Halama to a 1 year contract and are very very close to a 4 year 40 million dollar contract with Edgar Renteria. I really hope my Cards don't let Edgar go...

Yanks sign Pavano
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1944236

Good sign for the Yanks and the struggling rotation. \

They also signed my Cards 2B Tony Womack a few days ago in another good move.

Boston has re-signed David Wells.

Braves signed Brewers closer Dan Kolb, and will move John Smoltz back to starting rotation, after being the closer the last four years.
I think this is a good move. If Smoltz's arm is healthy, he can win the Braves 15 to 20 games as a starter, which they will need with the free agent losses of 15 game winners Jaret Wright and Russ Ortiz. Kolb should do fine in Atlanta with pitching guru Leo Mazzone. He saved 39 games in 2004 for a team that won 67 games. In Atlanta, assumimg their usual 90 to 95 win season, Kolb should be able to save at least 40 games. Good move by the Braves and their brilliant GM John Scherholtz.

Fuck!!!! If that is true and Alou and Delgado sign, the Mets are going to have a great lineup. Not much pitching, but a good lineup.
Get off your asses, Braves and get a hitter! We have more than enough pitching now by signing Kolb. If Smoltz and our starters stay healthy, our rotation is solid, but Iam worried about us scoring runs! Get a hitter, Braves, get a hitter, you cheap bastards!

The Toronto Blue Jays have reportedly come to a contract agreement with Canadian third-baseman Corey Koskie and hope to make an official announcement as early as Monday.

The Globe and Mail reported on Monday morning that Koskie was going to be in Toronto on Monday for a physical and his agent, Pat Rooney, has told other clubs that his client is no longer available.

The Globe and Mail said the Jays and Koskie agreed to a three year deal worth $17 million.

Late Sunday, Jays' general manager J.P. Ricciardi said he was hopeful he would get Koskie signed, but would not confirm anything was done.

The Mets signed Pedro. I am very happy to hear about that. It's time that they began to retool the rotation with youth. He will anchor a rotation with the following

Kris Benson: has talent, he won 17 games with the Pirates when they only won like 70 games. He showed flashes.

Tom Glavine: Getting up there but still has something left in the tank. Heck, if his team scored a few more runs for hin, he would have had at least five more wins, not to mention games the bullpen gave up and lost.

Steve Trachel: Probably the mnost consistent pitcher in the rotation. always pitched hard and gives a quality start more times than not.

Victor Zambrano: Jury is still out. Don't know that much about him since he came over from Tampa Bay

Next they need to sign a good hitter to solidify the batting order. As it stands right now, they would have a solid 3-6 slots. I'd like to see them get a lefty in the fifth slot to protect Piazza. I know the chances of Piazza being cut for payroll is more than likely but I have to go with what we have.

I like the fact that Omar Mineya is getting some slack from ownership. I think the Martinez signing has to do with Mineya. Do you think Wilpon would have gone for Martinez or stick to budget? funny thing is that the increased payroll costs will be offset by higher ticket sales revenue. I think Pedro will put fannies in the seats

Boston after losing Pedro Martinez is now talking to the Oakland A's about acquiring Tim Hudson one of the Oakland A's "three aces". It's doubtful that the A's can hang on to him anyway with their meager payroll plus he's good trade bait and should bring the team at lease one maybe two quality pitchers and possibly a second baseman. It was initially thought that he's be going to the Dodgers - their GM Depodesta is a personal friend of A's GM Billy Beane or to Aneheim.

It is said there are 6 teams interested in trading for Sammy Sosa, which should happen within the next 3-4 weeks. The Royals, Nationals, Orioles, Mets, Braves and Yankees have all said to have interest

Hope it happens so that the Cubs can sign Beltran😀

The thing that drives me nuts is that it seems like every player the Mets sign never produce. What is it? Is their kryptonite in the water in Flushing? This is a good pick up regardless and will only make the starting pitching better. He is moving to a pitcher friendly ball park and the National Leauge in general favors the pitchers more with the pitcher batting in the line up and the bigger strike zone. I see a strong possibility for 18 wins if the Mets can sign a hitter or two to score some runs for him

Randy Johnson will be going to the Yanks, will be reported soon.

Yanks: Johnson

D-Backs: Green and Penny

Dodgers: Vazquez

A couple of minor-leaguers in the deal, too.

That is the way it looks right now.

Mariners sign Beltre.. What a year he has last year. This kid is special.

The Mariners won't have one of the weakest lineups in baseball for long.

2004 SEASON STATISTICS
GM HR RBI R SB AVG
156 48 121 104 7 .334

Seattle signed third baseman Adrian Beltre to a five-year deal Thursday, ESPN's Peter Gammons is reporting. The contract, which one source told Gammons is worth $65 million, comes one day after the Mariners agreed to a four-year, $50 million deal with Richie Sexson.

Beltre's former team, the Dodgers, offered a six-year deal with an option for a seventh year, but at less money per year, according to Gammons.

Beltre, 25, had a breakout season for Los Angeles in 2004, hitting .334 with a major league-leading 48 home runs -- four more than his total of the previous two seasons combined -- and 121 RBI. He hit twice as many home runs as Bret Boone, who led the Mariners with 24 homers last season.

A career .262 hitter entering 2004, Beltre finished second in the National League Most Valuable Player voting to Barry Bonds and set career highs in virtually every offensive category last season. Despite being hobbled by an ankle injury, he scored 104 runs -- more than twice as many as he scored in 2003.

Beltre also did the job defensively, leading NL third basemen with a .978 fielding percentage.

Led by Beltre, the Dodgers won the National League West Division title before falling to the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Division Series.

The powerful additions of Beltre and Sexson figure to lead the Mariners back to prominence in the American League West following a 99-loss season that cost manager Bob Melvin his job. Prior to 2004, Seattle produced four straight 90-win seasons, including a franchise-record 116 victories in 2001.

Last season, the Mariners were outhomered by opponents, 212-136.

Braves trade for Tim Hudson, Oakland's ace pitcher, and rework John Smoltz's contract, giving him an extension for 2006 with a club option for 2007.
For a team cutting payroll, the Braves did quite nicely for themselves this week, TYVM. They reinstate one of the best closers in the game to his former starting role, where he should win at least 15 and perhaps 20 games, and then trade for a guy with a 92-39 record career wise without having to give up any of their major core players.
I again say, with a $100 million payroll or a $50 million payroll, Atlanta GM John Scherholtz is a genius. Only he could lose three starting pitchers in one week, including two 15 game winners, and rebuild his pitching staff so dramatically. Iam a bit concerned about our offense, with the departure of JD Drew, but if our pitching is healthy and productive as advertised, and everyone pitches up to capability, I can well see the Braves claiming a 14th straight division title in 2005. Way to go, John S! Great moves from one of the best baseball minds in history! Of course, let's not forget our constant rock on the field, Bobby Cox, the manager. Both gentlemen deserve a place in the Baseball Hall of Fame when they retire for the dynasty they put together!
