I just read an article on AOL which stated that law enforcement officals intend to step up patrols in public internet chat rooms in search of terrorists and pedophiles. The article claimed that law enoforcement has been doing so for years.
I think I posted on here before how when I was a newbie to TMF in October, 2002, I began talking to a girl without asking age. This was in the old old TMF insecure chat. The next thing I knew, a "cop" came on telling me that I was in trouble because I had talked to an underage girl about tickling, who I was told was 17. The way the conversation went, I was convinced that I had been nailed and it was real. The "cop" told me to get a lawyer, and such. Luckily, later that day, after conferencing about it with Myriads, I was told it had happened to others, and that it was a fake, nothing more then one of the trolls who used to haunt the old old room. I figured that it was real, because I thought that especially after 9-11, police might be patroling the internet. Since then, I have been extremely careful, and will always ask age before I talk to anyone on here. I have on a couple of occasions left chats on here with girls who told me they were underage, and told the mods, as none of us need the legal issues that go along with that. This article I read today re enforced the point of what happened to me two years ago, and made it known that we have to be wary in chat rooms. The only other chat I go into besides TMF is the baseball chat on AOL, so I dont think it would be a problem if I shoot the breeze with someone about baseball, even if they arent 18, as long as nothing sexual or propostioning happens, which it never does. After that incident, I have been extremely careful.
Anyone who has AOL might find that article informative. I just thought it worthy of posting, after the experience I had.
