Ah yes, more misinformation. First, about that Gasol trade. People don't realize, or just don't want to admit the Grizzlies didn't get stiffed in that trade. "Oh primetime, you're just saying that because the Lakers are winning!". No, how about you take a closer look.
Before he was traded, what was Pau Gasol doing? Good player, but was 0-12 in his playoff history. Jerry West was NOT the GM of Memphis at the time of the trade. Look it up. He wasn't. What did the Lakers give Memphis? Everyone has this notion the trade was Gasol for Kwame Brown straight up. It wasn't. The Lakers gave up Kwame the Bust, but they also gave up Marc Gasol (who is showing his worth), Javaris Crittendon, and TWO 1st round picks (2008 and 2010). Now, how has Memphis been doing since the trade? They are actually up and coming. You can see the improvement of their team. They are headed in the right direction. In fact, they finished 10th in the West last year (10 games out of a playoff berth), AND if they were in the East, they would have finished a game out of the playoffs.
You want to talk about highway robbery and collusion? The Kevin Garnett trade to Boston. Now, what did the T-Wolves get? How are the T-wolves doing after the trade? Yeah, I think Memphis got the better trade deal...
As for Lebron, like I keep mentioning in another thread, what he did to Cleveland was completely fucked up. Yeah, he has his right to choose any team, but the simple fact that he left those fans in the lurch, didn't have the common deceny to tell the Cavs organization he was bailing, speaks of the utmost disrespect, especially after the owner gave him the keys to the kingdom. Do you know the owner built the Cavs practice facility closer to Lebron's house so this spoiled brat didn't have to travel far to practice? Did you know it was Lebron who had a say in Mike Brown's hiring? Did you know the Cavs owner allowed James' crew travel on the team plane as though they were a part of the team? You should already know the entire freakin State of Ohio supported Lebron with all their sports hearts.
It is as simple as this. If the Cavs sucked, and weren't even title contenders, by all means leave. If the ownership of the Cavs did not try to win a title, then leave. If the fans didn't pour out in the streets and have "Lebron James Day", and the Governor wasn't asking you to stay, then leave. Cleveland has this "sports curse" and Lebron knows it. He knows how much a win would mean for that entire State. The simple fact that he made the Finals and had the best record should let him know the team was headed in the right direction. He turned his back on them. He turned his back on a city that that supported him with a love like never before in Cleveland history.
When life has you down, especially with this recession, people look for avenues of escape. They look for something to feel good about. The fact that the Cleveland Cavaliers were winning, and winning with ONE OF THEIR OWN, gave people something to feel good about and spend their hard, EARNED cash to watch him play. What does Lebron do? Go on national television, and doesn't give the Cavs organization the respect it deserved after dealing with his pompous ass all these years to let them know BEFOREHAND he was bailing. He publicly humiliated Cleveland across the PLANET. There was no reason for him to do that to that city. That is why I lost respect for Lebron. That's why I thought he wouldn't leave. I didn't think he would crush the city and State from which he came from like the way he did. Lebron is the most cold hearted, self absorbed, athlete ever. You can say Kobe is an egomaniac, you can say T.O. and whoever else are egomaniacs, but none of them have the connection to the city that Lebron had. Kobe is beloved in LA, but if he bounces, we will be pissed, but we won't have "Kobe Bryant day" to keep him. Look at 2004, you didn't see all of Los Angeles pouring out that support the way Cleveland did.
Lebron's legacy is through. He had a chance to win in Cleveland. he was a solid big man away from possibly winning the title. Now, he is swinging off Wade's nuts. Wade already has a ring. Lebron disappears in the playoffs. He is nothing but a ring chaser, not one of the all time greats.
