After going to the Led Zeppelin tribute Friday, I'm on a Led Zeppelin craze right now. I want to know (besides Stairway to Heaven, my fav song ever) what's your favorite Led Zeppelin song?

Man. Another Led head on the forum 😀 I love it. Stairway to heaven is a good tune but it gets so much noterity that I think it loses some of it's purity. Granted it's a great song but, IMHO, over played.

Some of my faves are

Going to California
Song Remains the Same
Misty Mountain Hop
Over the Hills and Far Away (it sounds even better on a twelve string guitar)
The Ocean
Immigrant Song

That's about all I can think of right now. I'm sure I'll think of more.

Stairways's a great tune that stands in a class by itself. I've been a Led-head for a long time, and there's so much material with different influences that it's hard to say a favorite.

Some memorable tunes I like...

Immigrant Song
When the Levee Breaks
Carouselabmra
All of My Love (which Plant wrote for his deceased son, and we played at my son's funeral)
In the Evening
Trampled Underfoot
Kashmir
Misty Mountain Hop
Black Dog
Babe I'm Gonna Leave You
Your Time is Gonna Come
Battle of Evermore

Has anyone seen the new Led Zeppelin DVD? I loved the sequence from Earl's Court in '75 where Robert, John Paul and Jimmy did a short acoustic set. JPJ on mandolin was a nice touch. Many don't realize how much of Zep's music was reliant on JPJ's multi-instrumentalism.

My two favorite bands are Led Zeppelin and Rush. Stairway is a classic song, but not my favorite Zep tune. I like the Immigrant Song and When the Levee Breaks as two of my faves, but there are so many that I can't pick a top ten.

i could, like the others, list so many. but i'll narrow it down to the top 3.

kashmir

the song remains the same

babe i'm gonna leave you

"Since I Been Lovin' You"...!!

one of the best guitar licks in the interlude I've ever heard...!!

I dig Zeppelin!

Stairway is an anthem. No matter how much it gets overplayed, I still seem to love it. Something about that particular guitar solo.

I can't think of a single bad Zeppelin tune. I love them all. But my favorite is one that gets little to no airplay. No Quarter, from the fifth album. It really accents the talent of John Paul Jones, who in my opinion, carried the biggest weight of the band...bass AND keyboards! Also, I'm convinced that the lyrics to No Quarter, like many other Zeppelin tunes, were inspired in part by The Lord of the Rings. Specifically, I believe it refers to Aragorn's trek through the Paths of the Dead with Gimli, Legolas, and the Dunadain. "Walking side by side with death." "They choose the path where no one goes."

I went to a lot of concerts in the mid seventies, but one of the most memorable concerts for me would have to be Zeppelin at the Capital Centre in Largo, Maryland in February of 1975. I was still 17 at the time and a senior in high school. The tickets went on sale on a Monday in January. I camped at the Capital Centre that weekend. We were first in line to buy tickets and we got Front Row Seats!! It was one of the few concerts of that era that weren't general admission. Of course I was ecstatic when they played No Quarter. When the drums kicked in, the crash cymbal was flanged and panned back and forth from left to right. It was a great show, dispite Page's heavy drinking (an entire fifth of Jack Daniels Black).

Black Dog..since my fiancee propsed to me during that song..lol...and Stairway To Heaven!! thats a classic

Well, Stairway To Heaven is always a classic, but I love it when Robert Plant starts shouting "And then we wind up on our road..." towards the end of the song. Awesome. My other favourite has to be "The Wanton Song". The overlapping guitars, bad ass riffs, a thumping beat and Plant's shrieking vocals do it for me! But it's so frickin' hard to play as well.

Not real much of a Zep fan honestly..and "Stairway.." has got to be the most overplayed track in the history of rock music. However, you ask why im posting here then? Well, cause im a huge fan of Robert Plant's solo work in the 80s😀 He had some top notch LP's if ya ask me..I wont get into it unless someone here agrees😉 Also, Page is great solo as well. My feelings on Zep is kinda like The Beatles..dont really like the group but when they all went solo..some of my top fave stuff.

Ah, memories!
My absolute favorite Zep tune's the final cut on the first album, "How Many More Times". This cut was incredible! Man, when I was a teen, I used to put my earphones on and BLAST that song until it reverberated throughout my entire being.
In my basement, I have a vinyl original Epic copy of the Yardbirds' last album, "Little Games", bought unopened at a record store on Bleecker Street in the Village over two decades ago. The album was kinda poor compared to previous Yardbird efforts, but Jimmy Page's guitar work is very much a curio. The Page signature is very much in evidence. If you see the album, what the hell, pick it up!
I think the best Zep album, pound for pound, would be "Physical Graffiti". I think they peaked. "Presence" would be classifed a nadir. "In Through The Out Door", I think, might've been their last album for many a day if John Bonham hadn't died...there'd be a reunion album in the mid nineties or so.
Just fantasies zooming through my head, of course...😛

Dskodj.... I like Plant's solo stuff too... "In the Mood" is just amazing... such a weird yet entrancing melody to it...

I was supposed to go see them in concert in 1980 on the tour that never happened cuz Bonham died :cry1: :cry1: :cry1:

I heard they were actually planning a tour with Bonhams' son Jason on the drums.

how much truth is to that?

Never got to see Zeppelin live but saw Robert Plant solo when he started singing the Zep songs again(awesome!), and Jimmy Page in The Firm(awful!)
I hope they don't do a reunion tour as they're all almost 60 years old, would be almost painful to watch.
Gotta go with Knox on The Yardbirds "Little Games". This may have been the most "pop" Yardbirds album, almost bordering on Herman's Hermits but Page has some great guitar playing on it. And you can hear what would eventually become "The Song Remains the Same" on "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Sailor".
My favorite Zeppelin record was the first, favorite songs:

"In My Time Of Dyin'"
"Custard Pie"
"In The Light"
"Bron-Y-Aur" Stomp"
"Hats Off To Roy (Harper)"
"Houses of the Holy"
"The Ocean"

Can't handle "Stairway to Heaven" anymore, has been so overplayed, it's become almost a parody of itself.

An amusing piece of info on Led Zeppelin (not music-related):

"Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page is an SM afficionado; groupies say 'when Jimmy ties you up, you better be ready to get tickled crazy!'"
