I think we as a community can combat this trend by providing more incentive to check the site on a more regular basis; while social media provides a more interactive experience with sharing personal information and grouping around more specific topics, and video/art sites are more effective at sharing and finding creative material, community forums can still be a very powerful tool for focusing on interaction within a community of like-minded individuals...and TickleTheater is second to none when it comes to having a tight, supportive community of tickle-lovers!
As we have more than enough members here who value this site as being very important in both their personal and social lives (as evidenced during the general reaction from the Theater's recent downtime), I think that with the proper incentive, the Theater can easily see more user traffic, more discussions, more back-alley tickle-fights...more of everything that's gotten us to fall in love with the site in the first place!
The question then is, what incentives would appeal most to you? Is there a particular feature you all would like to see implimented, that'll increase the value of spending time at the Theater? Would you all br interested in things like story contests, or other events that the community might want to be involved with? For example, GrayJester23 and I have recently been entertaining the idea of experimenting with a sort of online urban-fantasy D&D-esque game that's been doctored a bit to utilize tickling as its main mechanic, that might be playable (and spectatable) here in the forums. Would people possibly be interested in things like that?
We'd love to hear other ideas that might interested you all! 😀
Otherwise, yes...the Theater certainly has been experiencing a decline in activity over the past few years - but no way are we going to be down and out, especially if we've still got an amazing community of awesome people around who make us the great site that we are and have always been. 🙂
