I was wondering if you could actually die from tickling.
I've heard of cases of people dying from laughter.
And I asked my father who is a general medic if it were possible.
He said that enough tickling could give you a nervous breakdown, and if you were asthmatic you could probably well you know, suffocate.

So is it possible?

I'm not a doctor, but.. depending on how much tickling there was, and the lee's conditions, especially if they had serious asthma, emphysema, or a heart condition, I would think that perhaps an excessive amount of tickling of anyone, with any of those conditions, for a long period of time, could trigger a severe asthma attack, or.. perhaps even a heart attack.. either of which could conceivably kill someone, from being unable to breathe normally for a long period of time, and.. perhaps placing the body under a large amount of stress.

Again, I'm just a layman, so I dont know. This is purely an opinion based on some logic, without any medical evidence on my part to support my theory.

Not if you are perfectly healthy. If you are not, tickling can kill you just like running for the bus. But in the end it wouldn't have been the tickling that killed you, it would be your asthma or weak heart of whatever it is you got.

A healthy person will just be unconscious if they don't get enough air from laughter and as soon as unconsciousness kicks in, the breathing will normalize.

What's interesting is that we have no references of any deaths from tickling throughout the whole history of mankind so far. How come that we don't have any if it was possible? I mean evidential references, not myths or tales.

It is quite possible that deaths have occurred and no one reported tickling as the catalyst to the death. That being said you are correct there are no reported cases that are publically accessable at least.

Probably because it didn't happen. Not even the goat-torture has proven to be a historical fact, so it's not a miracle that there are no references for death from tickling.

I read that tickling was a form of torture in some ancient cultures and even in the middle ages and they would even tickle people to death. Imagine being tickled on your most vulnerable spots for hours and days and no safewords allowed. I am sure your heart would give out after a while.

Well, what comes to my mind anyway is:
If God didn't want girls to be tickled, he wouldn't have made them ticklish. 🙂

You read that on fetish websites, there is not a single historical piece of evidence for it, and we know pretty damn well how the historical justice system worked. The truth is, if you get tickled for hours and days, your sensitivity vanishes. You would get used to it eventually. People didn't waste so much time on executions during that times - they had much more effective methods!

I am no doctor either but anything that messes with your breathing or heart rate could kill you. Despite conditions or whatever tickling would be to blame because if that person were not being tickled then there condition would not be spurred. In fact a member just posted a story about being tickled into a scary health state at nest.

While I'm not a doctor, I did stay at a holiday inn lastnight.........well, a few months ago. Semantics......anyway, I would say that while it has the potential to happen, several extenuating circumstances would have to come into play for it to take place

If the person were not being tickled then they would have died next time they walked up a couple of stairs. Does that mean you can stairwalk yourself to death or does it mean you can have a heartattack when straining yourself too much?

One thing is for sure, you can not suffocate from tickling. Before that happens, you loose consciousness because of lack of oxygen. An article about that was just posted not too long ago.

Exactly, being tickled too much could cause too much of a strain and therefore would spur an attack. So yes the stair walking would be the culprit or the tickling could also be a culprit.

IMHO, that means you can't die from tickling or stair walking...you can die from whatever physical malfunction you already have. 🙂

He said that enough tickling could give you a nervous breakdown

You could have a "nervous breakdown" from tickling?

Hmm.

Let's find out what a nervous breakdown is exactly...

The term nervous breakdown is not a medical one. It is used by the public to describe any illnesses or stressors that result in inability to function, suicidal tendencies, or a complete lack of touch with the world. To have a nervous breakdown means you can’t participate at all in your life, and a true nervous breakdown might be followed by an attempted suicide. The gravity of suffering a total mental letdown should not be underestimated, and most people who really are suffering from this require hospitalization in a mental facility, or at the very least, immediate assistance from a mental health professional.

In a common sense, nervous breakdown is often an exaggerative term. The sentence, “I nearly had a nervous breakdown when I got a C on my test,” stretches the truth. People may use the term to express that they got nervous, felt “stressed out,” or were experiencing a great deal of tension. Sometimes, people use the term "mental breakdown" or "mental break," to differentiate from the common speech form of nervous breakdown.

So in other words, a nervous breakdown is a psychological, not physical, ailment. I.e., it's not a breakdown of your nervous system caused by overstimulation, such as too much tickling.

This is one of the things that annoys me about medical knowledge. Doctors hoard it, knowing that their lifestyle depends on the average person not being in the know about the basics of the human body.

That's like saying you can't die from smoking cigarettes you die from cancer. Or drinking doesn't kill you it's the head on collision in a car while your drunk that kills you. Oh yea, you don't die falling off a roof it's hitting the ground that kills you.

Pretty much everybody will die falling off a roof; but no healthy person will ever die from tickling.

And drinking indeed usually doesn't kill you. It IS the accident that does. 🙂

This is exactly why I bumped the "Treatsie on Tickling" in the true story section. Do not know how factual it is but seems to have been researched to some degree.

Paging Dr. de Montfort!!! Code blue or tickled pink???

Happens all the time to tightrope walkers and trapeeze artists.....but damn those long feathers cost a fortune!! If someone had an aneurysm or severe asthma or other pre-existing condition( 'lees and 'lers check your insurance disclaimers closely before trying to varify this post) maybe. But I agree with Rhiannon about the healthy garden variety 'lee. Has anyone at Nest almost gone to the big tickle cloud in the sky? Passing out is far from passing on!!As far as interrogation scenarios, being nervous or afraid of your 'ler seem to lower sensitivity. Also way back then people tended to go barefoot more and were "pedicure challenged" to say the least.

Oh my gosh now that is interesting. So you can actually die from laughing too hard. lol I would never have guessed that. Yeah but I guess if you were smiling and chuckling-you would be in a positive and a happy upbeat mode so I guess it could be seen as a happy way to go-long as you did not suffocate that is...but there have been times I laughed so hard my ribs started hurting and so did my tummy-really breathless out of breath but did not suffocate. Who knew. I also did not know that back in the old days-middle ages tickle torture was a form of corporate capital punishment to criminals wow, you learn something every day you can that you never knew. Who would have guessed.

Certain pre-existing medical conditions, such as high blood pressure, heart conditions and/or respiratory disease, may be aggravated by tickling, which could lead to death. If you suffer from these ailments, consult your doctor before engaging in ANY strenuous activities.

Also, anything which could restrict breathing, such as pressure on the chest, may cause asphyxiation during the tickling session. As with any bondage situation, be vigilant in checking on your sub's condition throughout the session.

I always thought it to just have been another expression 😛
