Hi guys.

Recently I have started some erotic tickle torture writings with the aim of publishing them on mtj. But I feel that what I have written is basically mediocre. Not good, not bad. Just average really.

So what I was thinking was that maybe I could find someone who would be willing to help me out with a little proof reading, give me an idea where I am going right and wrong. Someone who is a tickle writer would be preferable, someone who has been there and done that.

Also, i've been worried that I need to come up with my own ideas, so I have kinda been staying away from reading any other tickling works. Is that a bad idea would you say? I just can't help thinking that I'm cheating by using what I see others doing, but I admit that thought could be wrong.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

White.

Basically you are asking for an editor to provide you with their expertise, so you can in turn use your skill to sell your writing through a professional outlet. What rate are you offering for the educational services you are requesting, to better your future earning potential?

Now I'm sure there are some folks about here who are willing to give time and skill to someone because they enjoy being helpful, or teaching. But I wager they are also rare. You might be waiting a bit.

My advice, as a professional writer, who gets actual dollars for the works I hammer out of the computer is to write and write some more. Practice make one a better writer. Practice teaches one how to construct a story so it flows and connects, and is not a mess.

Grammer, and physical structure you can learn from the web. Or better still, take a intro writing course at a local school, and you'll get a lot of nuts and bolts how to do it advice.

Also reading what other people do, and how they do it is one of the only ways to see how things get constructed. Yes you'll see ideas that you'll probably end up echoing. But the base fact is that when you sit down to tell YOUR stories, you'll be creating your own characters with their own motivations, who will face challenges, and move your stories forward. The unique aspects you infuse into the work will make them your own, and not just copies.

You are looking to grow a skill. And one that is not easily picked up from books. You need to experience writing in many forms, and practice practice practice.

Well said for any profession or skill. Excellent. BTW you made one error 🙂

I always do in forum posts. I tend to aim for speed rather then precision so I often let some things slide. Sloppy, but worth the time saved in my eyes.

Also I spell AND type for poo, and autocorrect plays games with me that I don't always see! (found it and fixed it too, so there)

I may add, write the story you want to write.

Don't ape anyone else's style.

I find a lot of the stories have similar plots/content...which is fine if everyone loves those type of stories, but if you want something different, you'll have to write
it yourself, which is where good art/capitalism/etc. comes from.

I am working on my own story, my first.....which ironically features a man being tickled, not a woman in pantyhose!!! (The girl, obviously, will be wearing stockings.... 🙂)
It'll also be a positive, happy story, since almost every story written is about a person being tickle "tortured," I wanted a positive spin on it. And about relationships themselves,
the story comes from my rejection of the tidal wave of negative leaning articles/essays/stories about relationships, many written by Christians who are supposedly trying to
save relationships!

Write what you want to see, and see if other people enjoy it!

I may add, write the story you want to write.

Perhaps the best advice anyone could have given you. You always need to tell the story you want, not the one that you think your readers do, or worse, ask them what you should write.

Good point Mabus, and good luck with your own work.

Thanks

Well, I wasn't really looking for an editor or someone to pick through my work piece by piece. More someone who could just give me an idea if I'm on the right lines. The main issue I'm having is that I'm trying to write a bit of light hearted, almost tongue in cheek, tickle fiction. And sometimes I worry I'm straying into too serious content.

Still, your comments about reading other works being okay has helped. Possibly I was being too stubborn in that regard. I might have to try that.

Thanks for replying,

White

What I said and Myriads said, plus one!

Write the story you want, not what, even worse...what everyone's "supposed" to do.

Write something original.

Move away from cliches, and you have something remarkable.

Light hearted is a difficult style to nail. Tarr2k who was rather active in the '00's managed this rather well. His League of Ticklish Ladies was very light hearted, and solidly in the pocket of 'fun'.

The main trick is the viewpoint characters tone. If you use a third person style, its harder, but if you use a 1st person, or a single narrator then you can set the tone with greater ease. When you have multiple character perspectives where you can see their thoughts, for all of them to be funny and light makes things read wonky.

Spending some time seeing how others handle it is really the best way to get a feel.

You're telling me. 🙁

No, I do try to stick away from multiple character viewpoints.

So, you really think that reading other people's stuff is a good thing?
'cause I just see all this stuff on MTJ like stuff by Bandito and think they didn't need to look at other peoples stuff, they just got it from thier own creativity without any help. And all I can seem to do is copy thier work.

I know that idea may be wrong, but I can't shake it.

You don't exist in a vacuum, and while you always want to be unique, knowing what is going on in your field is important also.

It's not like the ideas of other writers are going to jump into your noggin' and then spurt out of your keyboard. Also, even if you did take the base idea of a writer (Like say my World of When series) your take and expression on it would be totally different from mine, because you have no clue what motivated my characters and such in the hundred or so pages of background notes that I have that never have made the public screen yet.

And we have ALL read others stuff. I certainly did. Bandito has, and so forth.

Writing is not some thing done in an ivory tower. And exposure to others ideas is not going to suddenly make you into a raging plagiarist.

You see, now why can't I tell myself that? Still, you've helped me. You really have. You've managed to help me out of this hole I've dug myself into. I owe you one, really. If there is something I can ever do to help you, just ask. Seriously, I'd like to return the favour.

Nothing owed. Sometimes we all need a new perspective. Just enjoy your writing. That's all I'd want.
