Looks Like The Poor Folks In the North East Are Going To Get Hit Again

I'm guessing that most of us from the center of the U.S., to the south, and through the Mid Atlantic, and North East, are keeping a close eye on the weather over the next few days. It looks like another snowstorm is headed this way.

While no Winter Storm Watches or Warnings have been issued yet, the weather map on Weather.com is shaded medium white for the mid Atlantic for Tuesday and Tuesday night, and bright white, from NYC to New England, on Wednesday. No exact accumulations have been announced, but it looks like accumulating snow may well hit these areas.

Of course, such must always happen on Tuesdays, the day I have to take my mom up to NJ for chemo. She had to miss two weeks ago due to the snowstorm then, and it looks like we may have to postpone again this week.

As most people know, a large storm is in the middle of the country, and the South, with snow, sleet, freezing rain, etc.

In all likelihood, if such patterns continue, Winter Storm Watches and Warnings will be issued for the Mid Atlantic and North East by tomorrow sometime.

Here we.. snow.. again.

Mitch

I am on the north side of Atlanta now. Snow/sleet/freezing rain over night and tomorrow. 😱

Here in Ohio weather.com is showing snow showers Tuesday and only a few on Wednesday.

Which is wonderful, not, because that's when I plan to be out driving around.

Yep. The Atlanta area is getting hit tonight. That system is expected to merge with the one coming from the midwest to create yet another major nor'easter. When I talked with Drew earlier, he said that they're expecting about a foot between Tuesday night and Wednesday. So, while I'd planned on waiting until Tuesday afternoon to head home, I'll now plan on leaving as soon as I have my dad up and around. I should be able to stay just ahead of it and get in before the nastiness starts. And they're talking about another possible slam next weekend! What ninny said this was supposed to be an easy winter?! lol

be careful now,ya hear. 🙂

Hmmm what part about snow in January is so very surprising? I dont get the surprise here...

Be careful if and when it happens as usual but dont get all worked up over normal winter crap...

Ann, be careful,. hun.

ray, I know it's not surprising. To me.. its upsetting, because it messes up my mom's chemo schedule. We had to cancel her appt two weeks ago due to the blizzard, and will have to cancel her appt this Tuesday. It sucks how it keeps happening on Tuesdays, as the Dr likes to try and keep her appts for the same day each week.

I'm not sure exactly how much snow they're expecting in Lancaster itself, as they haven't said. It looks like from the map, the coast may get hit worse than inland. Last time, NY got buried, and we got very little.

We may know more in the next 24 hours.

Even we're supposed to get hit tonight. In South Carolina where it snows maybe one day a year! Left my snow tires back in Germany when I moved here. lol

Well, it looks like I may miss out on the brunt of the fun again, unfortunately.

I see that Winter Storm Watches have been issued from as far west as Morristown NJ, all the way to at least Boston, for 6 to 12 inches of snow. Here in Lancaster, no watch has been issued as yet, as the forecast is for just "Snow", whatever that means. That would probably mean a few inches for us, up to six, unless they'll issue the dreaded, "Winter Weather Advisory", for just a few inches of snow at some point.

I'm sorry for all of the members who got hit just a couple of weeks ago in NY and north. We'll see how much I end up getting here.

Mitch

I just brought in my morning paper, and the forecasters at Accuweather are calling for anywhere from two to as much as six inches of snow. They seem to feel something is definitely coming, but they just dont know how much.

I just heard that my area is forecast to get up to six inches, with "Periods of Snow " expected. A "Winter Weather Advisory" has been issued here. In other areas, NYC has a Winter Storm Warning for up to 14 inches, and Hartford and Boston may get as much as 17 inches.

Hopefully, everyone will stay safe, and everyone's power will stay on.

You should be ashamed of yourself. 😛

I think people are getting worked up because , as the thread title indicates , it seems that the snow will again be targeting the "poor folks" in the Northeast ... leaving the upper & middle classes free & clear from all the hazards that go along w/these types of storms.

I find it rather disgusting that Mother Nature continually displays such acts of classism by dumping on those who are the least equipped to handle it. The poor have enough to worry about w/o being repeatedly assaulted by the weather.

Heres aphxa with the weather update

The ny area is going to be hit with some early january winter weather. East coasters can expect the snow fall to begin some time around 7 pm est and expect up to a foot of snow. Although the snow may be heavy at times. Expect major excuses from mayor bloomberg on why he felt it wasn't necessary to have the blow trucks cleaning it up in time.

It's been snowing here since mid to late afternoon, but.. I'm sorry to say for the people who are going to get hit with a foot or more, it's almost over here. The snow is expected to continue until midnight, and then end, with a maximum of five inches, and probably less.. of total accumulation. Once again, as in the last storm, Lancaster seems to have missed the worst of it. Unlike last winter, when we got hit multiple times with 12 plus inch snowfalls.

For those who do get a lot of snow, take it easy.

Mitch

18-24 inches expected. it should stop around noon and we will be right back to business as usual with little interruption to the normal routine...

I just read that 4 to 6 tonight and 6 to 10 tomorrow so worst case scenario 16 inchs max which isn't too bad

Damn . We are going to get something like that too 2 to 3 inchs an hour at some points .

You have an historic negative NAO and a persistent east coast trough. Both look like it will stay most of the winter. I predicted the east coast getting average to above average snowfall this year even though its a La nina. Looks like its going to be colder and more snowy upcoming.
