Congratulations to the 2012 Stanley Cup Champions, the LOS ANGELES KINGS!!!!
After so many years. After so many disappointments and heartbreaks. After some bad moves and bad seasons. After the 1993 team came so very close to winning it all. After watching the Anaheim Ducks win before them. After all the coaching changes, and even losing an owner, the LA Kings have FINALLY won the Stanley Cup.
They put on one hell of a run. 16-4 in the playoffs. They beat the top 3 seeds in the West. Now they vanquished one of the greatest goaltenders of all time, Martin Brodeur. I became a fan of the Kings in 1988 when Gretzky showed up. His arrival made people watch. As a kid, hockey was not on the radar where I grew up. Gretzky changed all that. I loved that era. My favorite player was goalie Kelly Hrudey (who by the way looks like actor Kurt Russell). I LOVE Luc Robitaiile. Guys like Greztky, Tomas Sandstrom, Jari Kurri, Paul Coffey, Steve Duschene, Rob Blake, Alexei Zhitnik, Tony Granato, Dave Taylor, and many others were fun to watch. That run in 1993 captivated everyone. But they lost to the Canadiens in 5 games.
Now a new era of Kings are here. Jonathan Quick, Anze Kopitar, Dustin Brown, Mike Richards, Drew Doughty, Dustin Penner, Jeff Carter, and a whole host of others have brought great pride to Los Angeles. LA is not a place where you think of hockey. This is a moment all of us Kings fans will enjoy for a long time.....
